Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: Ibn Abi 'Umayr relates from certain persons that Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: The verse "Those who conceal the clear signs and the guidance We have sent down, after We have made them plain for people in the Book" was revealed concerning 'Ali.
Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: Humran relates from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, that he said: What is meant by the verse "Those who conceal the clear signs and the guidance We have sent down, after We have made them plain for people in the Book" is ourselves — and God is the helper.
Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: Zayd al-Shahham says: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, was asked about the punishment of the grave. He said: Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, has said that a man came to Salman the Persian and said: Relate a hadith to me. Salman was silent. He asked again, and again he was silent. The man made to leave, but recited the verse "Those who conceal the clear signs and the guidance We have sent down, after We have made them plain for people in the Book." Salman said: Come! If we found a trustworthy man we would relate hadith to him; but make yourself ready for Nakir and Munkar, for in the grave you will be questioned about the Prophet. If you doubt, or it weighs heavy upon you, they will strike your head with a mace until you turn to ashes. I asked: And after that? He said: You return to your first state and are punished! I said: What are Munkar and Nakir? He said: They are your two companions in the grave. I said: Are they two angels who punish people in their graves? He said: Yes.
Elucidation: "Al-qa'id", on the pattern of "fa'il" in the sense of the active participle: that is, one who keeps you company as you sit within the grave.

Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: Al-'Ayyashi relates from certain of our companions, from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him: I said to him: Tell me the meaning of the verse "Those who conceal the clear signs and the guidance We have sent down, after We have made them plain for people in the Book." He said: What is meant by that verse is ourselves. God is the helper. When they come to a man of us, it is neither in his power nor within his scope to do other than make plain to people who comes after him.
Muhammad b. Muslim related: What is meant by this verse is the People of the Book (the Jews and Christians, who used to conceal knowledge).
Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr related from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that in explaining the noble verse "God curses them, and the cursers curse them" he said: What is meant by the cursers in that verse is ourselves; and others have said: it is the creatures of the earth.
Elucidation: The pronoun "they" refers to the cursers. "And they have said" — the plural pronoun
