al-Mukhtar says: Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, said: Had you kept your tongues tied (had you been keepers of secrets), each of you would have been told his own destiny.

Al-Mahasin: Abu Basir says: I said to Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him: What is wrong with us, that you never tell us of what is to come? Imam 'Ali, peace be upon him, used to tell his companions of what was to come. The Imam said: Yes — then bring me one hadith I told you which you kept hidden. Abu Basir says: By God, I could not find a single hadith that I had kept hidden (I had told them all).

Al-Mahasin: Abu Basir says: I asked Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, many a hadith. He said: Have you kept any hadith hidden, or have you told them all? I was trying to recall what to say, and when the Imam saw that state in me he said: There is no objection to your relating hadith to your own companions; the divulging of our secret is that you relate hadith to those who are not your companions (those who are not Shi'a).

Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: Muhammad b. 'Ajlan says: I heard him saying: God reproached a people for divulging, saying: "And when a matter concerning safety or fear comes to them, they spread it abroad." Beware of divulging the secret.

I visited him at Mina, and he said: What have you to do with the hadiths of Jabir? Beware of them, for if they fall into the hands of base men they will divulge them.
