"There is nothing like Him." And when they ask you about God's hearing, say as God has said: "He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." Speak to people according to the measure of their understanding.

Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: Mas'ada b. Sadaqa related from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he was asked about the great events that have not yet come to pass and that will come to pass hereafter. He said: The time for disclosing them has not yet come; and to this God, exalted, alludes in His words: "Rather, they belied what they could not encompass in knowledge, and whose interpretation had not yet come to them."

Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: Humran said: I asked Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, about the great events — the Return and other matters. He said: The time of what you ask about has not yet come. God, exalted, has said: "Rather, they belied what they could not encompass in knowledge, and whose interpretation had not yet come to them."

Basa'ir al-Darajat: Al-Halabi related from his father, from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him: I was present with the Imam, peace be upon him, when a man said: Al-Hasan al-Basri relates from the Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — that the Messenger of God said: Whoever conceals knowledge will come on the Day of Resurrection to the field of the gathering bridled with a bridle of fire. He said: He has lied — woe to him! Then where do the words of God, exalted, stand: "And a believing man of Pharaoh's house, who concealed his faith, said: Would you kill a man for saying 'My Lord is God'?" Then Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, recited that verse aloud and said: Let them go wherever they will; by God, they will find knowledge nowhere but here. Then he was silent a moment and said: Knowledge is with the family of Muhammad — may God bless him and his family.

I say: Some chains of this report I have given in the chapter on those from whom it is permissible to take knowledge, and many of the reports in the chapter that their knowledge is hard and hard to bear.

Rijal al-Kashshi: 'Amr b. Shimr related from Jabir that he said: In my youth I went in to Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him. He said: Who are you? I said: Of the people of Kufa, and I have come to you seeking knowledge. He gave me a book and said: So long as the Umayyads live, if you relate a single hadith from this book, my curse and the curse of my forefathers be upon you! And if you hide anything of it after the Umayyads have perished, my curse and the curse of my forefathers be upon you! Then he gave me another book and said: Take this; and if you ever relate anything of it, my curse and the curse of my forefathers be upon you.
