Rijal al-Kashshi: 'Abd Allah b. Jabala related that Dharih al-Muharibi said: I asked Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, about Jabir al-Ju'fi and his reports, and the Imam gave no answer — and I think he said: I asked him in a company about Jabir al-Ju'fi and his hadiths, and he gave no answer. I asked him a third time, and he said: O Dharih, leave off talk of Jabir; for when foolish men heard his hadiths they reproached him — or he said: they spread them abroad.

Rijal al-Kashshi: Abu Jamila related from Jabir al-Ju'fi that he said: Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, himself related a thousand hadiths to me which I have related to no one until now, nor shall I relate them to anyone hereafter. Jabir said: I said to Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him: May I be your ransom! You have laid a heavy burden on my shoulders by relating your secrets to me, and I have passed them on to no one — how often my breast boils, until I am near to madness. The Imam, peace be upon him, said: O Jabir, when that happens, go out to the mountain, dig a pit, put your head into it and say: Muhammad b. 'Ali related to me thus and thus.

Amali of al-Shaykh al-Tusi: 'Abd al-'Azim al-Hasani related from Imam al-Jawad, from his forefathers, from the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon them all, from the Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — that he said: We, the company of prophets, were commanded to speak to people according to the measure of their intellects. The Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, said: The Prophet — may God bless him and his family — said: My Lord commanded me to deal gently with people, just as He commanded me to perform the obligatory duties.

Al-Tawhid: Muhammad b. 'Ubayd said: I went in to Imam al-Rida, peace be upon him, and he said to me: Tell the 'Abbasids to stop speaking about the divine unity and other such matters; and to speak to people according to the measure of their understanding, and to hold back from what they would reject. When they ask you about the divine unity, say what God, exalted, has said: "Say: He is God, One; God the Eternal Refuge; He did not beget, nor was He begotten; and there is none comparable to Him" — "In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate. Say: He is God, One; God the Eternal Refuge; He did not beget, nor was He begotten; and there is none comparable to Him." And when they ask you about how God is, answer as God has said: "There is nothing like Him,"
