Amali of al-Shaykh al-Tusi: Mudrik b. Hazhaz said: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: O Mudrik! Our cause is not merely accepting it, but guarding it and concealing it from those unworthy of it. Convey my greetings to my companions and tell them: May God have mercy on one who draws people's love towards us and relates to them a hadith they can grasp, and leaves aside the hadiths they do not understand.
بيان: قال الفيروزآبادي قرأ عليه أبلغه كأقرأه و لا يقال أقرأه إلا إذا كان السلام مكتوبا.
Al-Fayruzabadi said: "qara'a 'alayhi" means he conveyed it to him, like "aqra'ahu"; and one does not say "aqra'ahu" unless the greeting is written.

Rijal al-Kashshi: It is related from Abu Ja'far al-Basri that he said: I went in with Yunus b. 'Abd al-Rahman to Imam al-Rida, peace be upon him, and Yunus b. 'Abd al-Rahman complained to him of what he saw of the companions' speaking ill of him. Imam al-Rida, peace be upon him, said: Deal with them gently and mildly, for their minds do not reach so far — that is, they do not grasp or understand that they must keep away from improper words and deeds.
