أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عليه السلام مَنْ عَمِلَ بِمَا عَلِمَ كُفِيَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ.
the word of Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, says that he said: Whoever acts upon what he knows will be given sufficiency concerning what he does not know.

Al-Tawhid: 'Abd al-A'la says: I asked Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, about one who knows nothing at all — is there any obligation upon him? He said: No.

Tahzib al-Ahkam: Muhammad b. Muslim related from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, that I asked him about birds of prey and wild beasts; he was even asked about the hedgehog, the bat, the donkey and the mule. He said: Nothing is unlawful except what God has made unlawful in the Qur'an… to the end of the report.

Al-Kafi and Tahzib al-Ahkam: Ibn Bukayr related from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said: When you are certain that a nullifying occurrence has issued from you and you had performed the ablution, beware of invalidating your ablution and performing it again, unless you are certain that the nullifying occurrence has issued from you.

Al-Kafi: Zurara related from Imam al-Baqir or Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon them, that I said to him: One who does not know whether he is in the fourth unit or the second, but is certain that he has prayed two units — [what is he to do]? He said: Let him perform two units of prayer standing, with the Opening of the Book and four prostrations and the testimony, and there is nothing further upon him. And when he does not know whether he is in the third unit or the fourth but is certain that he has prayed the third, let him stand and pray one further unit standing, and there is nothing further upon him. Certainty is not broken by doubt, and doubt does not enter into certainty, and neither of them is mixed with the other; rather doubt is broken by certainty, and on the basis of the previous certainty the prayer is completed, and no heed is paid to doubt in any of the states.

Tahzib al-Ahkam: Al-Bazanti says: I asked him, peace be upon him, about a man who comes to the market and buys a silk cloak and does not know whether it is pure or not — may he pray in it or not? He said: Yes. Asking and investigating are not incumbent upon you. Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, used always to say: The Kharijites, out of ignorance, made things narrow for themselves; religion is broader than that.

Tahzib al-Ahkam: Hariz related from Zurara: I said in the presence of the Imam, peace be upon him: Blood from a nosebleed or something else, or some semen, got onto my garment, and I thought that it had got onto the garment but I was not certain; so I looked and saw nothing, then I prayed, and after the prayer I saw that my garment was impure. The Imam said: You wash it and do not repeat your prayer. It was said: Why?
