'Ilal al-Shara'i': It is related from al-Imam al-Rida, peace be upon him, from his fathers, that a man asked Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him: Why is it that with spreading and study the Qur'an gains nothing but freshness and newness? He said: Because God the Exalted has not made the Qur'an for one age rather than another, nor for one people rather than another. The Qur'an is fresh in every age and new before every group, until the Day of Resurrection.

Al-Kafi and Tahzib al-Ahkam: Abu 'Amr al-Zubayri asks Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, questions about the rulings of struggle, and the discussion extends until the Imam says: If in someone the conditions that God has described are fulfilled — the very conditions that existed in the Prophet's companions — and this person who fulfils the conditions is wronged, he has leave to struggle just as the Prophet's companions had leave; for God's ruling and obligations concerning the first and the last are one and the same, unless it be on account of some cause or event. Likewise the first and the last are partners in warding off events, and the obligations are the same for all, and the question put to all concerning the discharge of the obligations is one, and all are called to account. The reckoning of the Muslims of the first age and the Muslims of the end of time is the same.

Al-Kafi: Hamza b. al-Tayyar related from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said to me: Write — and he dictated to me: Of our word is that God the Exalted argues against the servants by what is prepared for them and what they have recognised, and then He sent the prophets to them and sent down for them the Book, and in that Book He commanded and forbade. In that Book He commanded the prayer and the fast… to the end of the report.
