"And do not marry idolatresses until they believe" — such a marriage is not permissible. He said: What do you say about the verse "And [lawful to you are] chaste women from among those who were given the Book before you", which holds the above marriage permissible? I said: The former verse has abrogated this verse. The Imam smiled and kept silent.

Al-Kafi: Zurara relates from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, that he said: Marriage with the People of the Book is not proper. I said: May I be your ransom! What is the proof of its being unlawful? He said: The word of God the Exalted: "And do not hold to the ties of unbelieving women."

Tahzib al-Ahkam: Muhammad b. Isma'il says: I asked Imam al-Kazim, peace be upon him, about prostatic fluid. He said: Perform the ablution. Another year I asked the same question and he gave the same answer and said: 'Ali, peace be upon him, instructed al-Miqdad to ask the Prophet the ruling on prostatic fluid, since he himself felt shy to ask the Prophet about it. The Prophet answered al-Miqdad: It requires ablution. I said: What if I do not perform the ablution? He said: There is no objection.

Al-Kafi: Muhammad b. Muslim relates from Imam al-Sadiq or Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon them, that he said: If God had not, on account of the verse "And it is not for you to hurt the Messenger of God, nor ever to marry his wives after him", made the wives of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, unlawful to people, marriage with them would certainly have been unlawful for al-Hasan and al-Husayn, peace be upon them, by the proof of the verse: "And do not marry the women whom your fathers have married, except what has already passed" — since a man cannot marry his grandfather's wife.

Al-Kafi: Abu Basir says: I asked Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, about the verse "[O Prophet,] you are only a warner, and for every people there is a guide." He said: The warner is the Prophet, may God bless him and his family, and the guide is 'Ali, peace be upon him. O Abu Muhammad! Does that guide exist today? I said: Yes, may I be your ransom; there has always been a guide after a guide from among you the People of the House, until the matter of guidance has reached you. He said: May God have mercy on you; if it were such that a verse was sent down concerning a person and that person died, then with his death the verse, the Book and the practice would die too — but it is never so, for the verses are always living and are applicable to those who come later just as to those who went before.
