I say: On account of this principle (the absence of harm and harming in Islam) there are many witnesses from the reports recorded in their proper places, and the late al-Kulayni has mentioned many of these reports in a separate chapter.

Al-Ghayba of al-Tusi: Muhammad b. 'Abdallah b. Ja'far al-Himyari wrote to the holy quarter of the Master of the Age (may God hasten his relief) and put the following question: Concerning one who rises from the first testimony for the third unit, some of our companions say that the magnification is not obligatory upon him and that saying "By God's power and strength I rise and sit" suffices. Is the magnification in fact obligatory or not? The answer came as follows: On this matter there are two hadiths, one of which says that the worshipper must say the magnification in passing from any state to another. In the second hadith it has come that when he raises his head from the second prostration and says the magnification and sits and rises, the magnification is not obligatory; and the first testimony has the same ruling. And whichever of these two hadiths you act upon by way of submission to the Imams of truth, you have travelled the way of right.

Man La Yahduruhu al-Faqih: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said: The Muslims are bound by their stipulations.

The book of 'Asim b. Humayd: Muhammad b. Muslim says: I asked Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, about the verse: "O you who believe, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good, that you may prosper. And strive in the way of God as is due to striving [in His way]; He has chosen you [for Himself] and has not placed hardship upon you in religion." He said: It concerns the prayer, the alms, the fast and the good deeds that you perform.

The apparent sense of the hadith is that the negation of hardship and difficulty is a universal rule.

Al-Kafi and Tahzib al-Ahkam: 'Abd al-A'la, the ally or client of the family of Sam, says: I said to Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him: My nail was cut off and I have wrapped a cloth over it; how shall I perform the ablution? The Imam said: These and the like of them are known from the Qur'an, which says: "He has not placed hardship upon you in religion" — there is no hardship in religion; it is enough for you to wipe over it.

Tahzib al-Ahkam: Abu al-Ward says: I said to Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him: Abu Zabyan relates that he saw 'Ali, peace be upon him, pour out the water and then wipe over his two sandals.

In al-Tanqih he says: his name is al-Husayn b. Jundab; Ibn Manda and Abu Nu'aym counted him among the companions and gave his agnomen as Abu Jundab, and al-Shaykh, may God have mercy on him, counted him in his Rijal among the companions of 'Ali, peace be upon him; and our master al-Baqir, peace be upon him, declared him a liar — and then he mentioned this very report.
