Man La Yahduruhu al-Faqih: Zurara and Muhammad b. Muslim both say: We said in the presence of Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him: What do you say about the traveller's prayer? How is it and how much is it? He said: God the Exalted says: "And when you travel in the land, there is no blame upon you to shorten the prayer, if you fear that those who disbelieve may harm you." So shortening while travelling became obligatory, like completing it while resident. We said: God the Exalted says, "There is no blame upon you", and did not say, "Shorten it" — how then has He made it obligatory? He said: Did not God the Exalted say concerning al-Safa and al-Marwa: "So whoever makes the pilgrimage to the House or performs the 'umra, there is no blame upon him to go to and fro between them"? Do you not see that the running between al-Safa and al-Marwa is obligatory and God has made it a duty? For God mentioned it in the Qur'an and His Prophet performed it; and likewise shortening while travelling is something the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, performed and God mentioned in the Qur'an.

Al-Kafi: Zurara related from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, that Samura b. Jundab had a date palm in the courtyard of the house of a man of the Helpers, and the house of that man of the Helpers was near the gate of a garden through which Samura would always go to his palm tree without asking permission. The man of the Helpers spoke with him that he should ask permission on entering. Samura refused. So that man of the Helpers complained of Samura to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, and informed him. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, sent someone to Samura and informed him of the Helper's complaint and said: Whenever you wish to enter the courtyard of the house, ask permission. Samura refused. After that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, spoke with Samura about selling that date palm and raised its price very high. Samura refused to sell. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said: In place of this date palm I shall guarantee you a shady date palm in Paradise. Samura refused to accept it. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said to the man of the Helpers: Go, pull up his tree by the roots and throw it away, for in Islam there is no harm and no harming.

Al-Kafi: Zurara related the like of this hadith from him, and in it he recorded that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said to Samura: You are a man who causes harm, and there is no harm and no harming of a believer in Islam.

Al-Kafi: 'Uqba b. Khalid related from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, gave judgement among the people of Medina concerning the watering place of date palms, that sweet water should not be withheld; and he gave judgement among the desert dwellers that they should not withhold surplus water so as thereby to withhold the pastures. And he said: There is no harm and no harming in Islam.
