Al-Mahasin: Al-Imam al-Sajjad, peace be upon him, said: Moses, peace be upon him, passed by a man who had raised his hands toward heaven and was praying. Moses went about his business. A week passed, and when he returned he saw that his hands were still raised toward heaven and he was praying. He said: My Lord, this servant of Yours has stretched out both his hands toward You and is asking for his need and has been begging Your pardon for a week — why do You not answer his prayer? God revealed to Moses: O Moses, if he prays so long that both his hands are severed from his body, or his hands are cut off, or his tongue is cut out, I will not answer his prayer until he enters by the door I have commanded.

Al-Mahasin: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, related from the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, that he used always to say: There is no good in this world except for two men: a man who every day adds to his good deeds, and one who makes amends for his sin by repentance — but how is his repentance accepted? By God, if he prostrates [so long] that his neck is severed, God will not accept his repentance except through knowing the truth.

Majalis al-Mufid: The Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, related from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, that he said: God has fixed bounds for you, so do not transgress them; and He has made obligations binding upon you, so do not squander them; and He has ordained practices for you, so follow them; and He has set inviolabilities for you, so do not rend them; and certain things He has pardoned you out of His mercy and not out of forgetfulness — so do not put yourselves to hardship.

Majalis al-Mufid: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, mounted the pulpit, and with the colour gone from his face he turned to the people and said: O Muslims, my mission and the Hour are joined like these two fingers of mine — and he placed his two index fingers side by side. Then he said: O Muslims, truly the best way is the way of Muhammad, and the best speech is the Book of God, and the worst of matters are new and newly invented matters. Know that every innovation is misguidance, and the place of every misguidance is in the Fire. O people, whoever leaves property behind him, it is for his family and his heirs; and whoever leaves behind dependents and those he supported, their care is upon me.
