Sa'd relates from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, that he said: Our hadith is hard and hard to bear; none can bear it but an angel brought near, a prophet sent with a mission, a tested believer, or a fortified city. When our affair comes to pass and our Mahdi appears, [every] man of our Shi'a will be braver than a lion and sharper than a spear: he will press our enemies underfoot and strike them with both his hands; and this is the time of the descent of God's mercy and His relief upon His servants.

Basa'ir al-Darajat: Abu Hamza al-Thumali related from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him: I heard him always saying: Our hadith is hard and hard to bear; none can bear it but an angel brought near, a prophet sent with a mission, or a tested believer. Then he said: O Abu Hamza, do you not consider that from among the angels brought near, the prophets sent with a mission, and the tested believers, some have been chosen for our cause?

Basa'ir al-Darajat: Ibn Sinan or another relates in an elevated hadith from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said: Our hadith is hard and hard to bear; none bears it but illumined breasts, sound hearts, and men of good character. God took a covenant from our Shi'a, just as He took a covenant from the children of Adam when He said: "And when your Lord took from the children of Adam, from their loins, their offspring, and made them bear witness against themselves: Am I not your Lord? They said: Yes, we bear witness." So whoever keeps faith with us and in the way of God, for him is Paradise; and whoever bears us hatred and does not render our right will be in Hell.

Basa'ir al-Darajat: Abu Ja'far relates that one day, in the presence of Imam al-Sajjad, peace be upon him, something was said about dissimulation. He said: By God, had Abu Dharr known what was in Salman's heart he would have killed him — though the Prophet had made the two of them brothers. The case of the rest of the people is plain. Our knowledge and learning is hard and hard to bear; none can bear it but a prophet sent with a mission, an angel brought near, or a servant tested in the way of faith. If Salman became one of the learned, it is because he was a man of us, the People of the House, and belonged to us.
