Basa'ir al-Darajat: Murazim and Musa b. Bakr say: We heard Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, saying: God always raises up from among us, the People of the House, one who knows the Book of God from its beginning to its end. And God's lawful and unlawful are with us; we have no right to conceal it, and on the other hand we cannot tell it to everyone.

Basa'ir al-Darajat: Al-Harith b. al-Mughira says: I said to Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him: Whence comes the knowledge that your learned one knows? He said: It is the inheritance of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, and of 'Ali b. Abi Talib, peace be upon them both; people have need of it, and we have no need of people.

Basa'ir al-Darajat: Burayd al-'Ijli says: I asked Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, about the verse "purified pages, in which are upright writings". He said: It is our hadith, which is recorded in pages purified of falsehood.

Al-Mahasin: Isma'il al-Ju'fi says: Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, said: God has kept Muhammad, may God bless him and his family, free and clear of three things: of fabricating a lie against God, of speaking out of caprice, and of affectation — that is, of claiming things he is not entitled to.

Elucidation: The hadith alludes to the noble verse: "And had he fabricated against Us some sayings"; and fabrication is called "taqawwul" because it is contrived speech. And it alludes to the noble verse: "Nor does he speak out of caprice." And it alludes to the words of God, exalted: "And I am not one of those who affect what they are not." "Takalluf" is contrivance and claiming something one is not entitled to.

Majalis of al-Mufid: Jabir says: I said to Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him: Tell me the chain of your hadith. He said: From my father, from my grandfather, from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, from Gabriel, from God, exalted; whenever I relate a hadith to you, this is its chain.
