"And they have no knowledge of this; they do but follow [the way of] conjecture."
al-Ahqaf: "Or do they say: He has invented it? Say: If I have invented it, you have no power to avail me anything against God. He knows best what you plunge into [with your taunts]. He suffices as a witness between me and you, and He is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
al-Saff: "And who is a greater wrongdoer than one who invents falsehood against God while he is being called to Islam? And God does not guide the wrongdoing people."
al-Haqqa: "And had he invented against Us some sayings," "We would have seized him by the right hand," "then We would have cut his life-vein," "and none of you could have withheld [the punishment] from him."
al-Jinn: "And we had supposed that men and jinn would never speak a lie against God."

Kitab 'Asim b. Humayd: 'Abida al-Salmani says: The Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, delivered a sermon to us from a pulpit of brick. After praising and glorifying God he said: O people, be God-fearing, and do not give people rulings on what you do not know! The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, has hadiths which have reached others, and sayings that have not been put in their proper place, and lies have been told about him. 'Alqama and 'Abida al-Salmani rose from the gathering and said: O Commander of the Faithful, what shall we do with the hadiths that have reached us in these books from the Prophet's companions? He said: Ask the scholars of the family of Muhammad, may God bless him and his family, about this — as though he meant himself.

Amali of al-Saduq: Zurara b. A'yan says: I asked Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him: What right has God over His servants? He said: That they say what they know and hold back in what they do not know.

Amali of al-Saduq: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Truly God, blessed and exalted, has reproached His servants in two verses of the Qur'an, so that they should say nothing when they do not know, and should not deny what they do not know. God has said: "Was not the covenant of the Book taken from them, that they should say nothing but the truth concerning God, while they have studied what is in it?" And He said: "Rather, they belied what they could not encompass in knowledge, and whose interpretation had not yet come to them."
