بنا إلى فاطمة فإنا قد أغضبناها ، فانطلقا جميعا فاستأذنا على فاطمة " عليها السلام " فلم تأذن لهما ، فأتيا عليا " عليه السلام " فكلماه فأدخلهما عليها ، فلما قعدا عندها حولت وجهها إلى الحائط ، فسلما عليها فلم ترد عليهما السلام ، فتكلم أبو بكر فقال : يا حبيبة رسول الله ، والله إن قرابة رسول الله أحب إلي من قرابتي ، وإنك لأحب إلي من عائشة ابنتي ، ولوددت يوم مات أبوك إني مت ولا أبقى بعده ! !

to Fatima, for we have angered her. So they went together and sought leave of Fatima, peace be upon her, and she did not give them leave. So they came to 'Ali, peace be upon him, and spoke to him, and he brought them in to her. When they sat down with her, she turned her face to the wall; and they greeted her, and she did not return the greeting to them. Abu Bakr spoke and said: O beloved of the Messenger of God, by God, the kinship of the Messenger of God is dearer to me than my own kin, and you are dearer to me than 'A'isha my daughter; and I could have wished, on the day your father died, that I had died and not remained after him.

أفتراني أعرفك وأعرف فضلك وشرفك وأمنعك حقك وميراثك من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله إلا أني سمعت أباك رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله يقول : لا نورث ! ! ! ما تركناه فهو صدقة .

Do you think that I know you, and know your merit and your nobility, and would withhold from you your right and your inheritance from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family? Only I heard your father, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, say: We are not inherited from; what we leave is alms.

فقالت : أرأيتكما إن حدثتكما حديثا عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله تعرفانه وتفعلان به .

She said: Tell me, if I relate to you both a hadith from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, will you acknowledge it and act by it?

قالا : نعم ، فقالت : نشدتكما الله ألم تسمعا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله يقول : رضا فاطمة من رضاي وسخط فاطمة من سخطي ، فمن أحب فاطمة ابنتي أحبني ومن أرضى فاطمة فقد أرضاني ومن أسخط فاطمة فقد أسخطني قالا : نعم سمعناه من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله قالت : فإني أشهد الله وملائكته أنكما أسخطتماني وما أرضيتماني ، ولئن لقيت النبي لأشكونكما إليه ، فقال أبو بكر : أنا عائذ بالله من سخطه وسخطك يا فاطمة ، ثم انتحب أبو بكر يبكي حتى كادت نفسه أن تزهق ! !

They said: Yes. She said: I adjure you by God, did you not hear the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, say: The good pleasure of Fatima is of my good pleasure, and the anger of Fatima is of my anger; so whoever loves Fatima my daughter has loved me, and whoever pleases Fatima has pleased me, and whoever angers Fatima has angered me? They said: Yes, we heard it from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family. She said: Then I call God and His angels to witness that you two have angered me and have not pleased me; and if I meet the Prophet I shall complain of you to him. Abu Bakr said: I take refuge with God from His anger and from your anger, O Fatima. Then Abu Bakr sobbed and wept until his soul was near to departing.

وهي تقول : والله لأدعون الله عليك في كل صلاة أصليها ، ثم خرج باكيا ! !

And she was saying: By God, I shall supplicate God against you in every prayer that I pray. Then he went out weeping.

فاجتمع إليه الناس ، فقال لهم : يبيت كل رجل منكم معانقا حليلته مسرورا بأهله وتركتموني وما أنا فيه ، لا حاجة لي في بيعتكم ، أقيلوني بيعتي ، قالوا : يا خليفة رسول الله إن هذا الأمر لا يستقيم ، وأنت أعلمنا بذلك ! ! !

And the people gathered to him, and he said to them: Every man of you passes his night embracing his wife, rejoicing in his family, and you have left me and what I am in. I have no need of your pledge; release me from my pledge. They said: O deputy of the Messenger of God, this affair will not stand straight, and you are the most knowing of us in that!

إنه إن كان هذا لم يقم لله دين فقال : والله لو ذلك وما أخافه من رخاوة هذه العروة ما بت ليلة ولي في عنق مسلم بيعة بعد ما سمعت ورأيت من فاطمة ، قال : فلم يبايع علي كرم الله وجهه حتى ماتت فاطمة رضي الله عنها ، ولم تمكث بعد أبيها إلا خمسا وسبعين ليلة ، إنتهى موضع الحاجة

For if this were so, no religion would stand for God. He said: By God, were it not for that, and for what I fear of the slackness of this bond, I would not have passed a night with the pledge of a Muslim upon my neck, after what I have heard and seen from Fatima. He said: And 'Ali, may God ennoble his face, did not pledge until Fatima, may God be pleased with her, died; and she did not remain after her father but seventy-five nights. End of what is needed
