قولا لأصلع هاشم إن أنتما لاقيتماه لقد حللت أرومها وإذا قريش بالفخار تساجلت كنت الجدير به ، وكنت زعيمها وعليك سلمت الغداة بإمرة للمؤمنين فما رعت تسليمها نكثت بنو تيم بن مرة عهدها فتبوئت نيرانها وجحيمها وتخاصمت يوم السقيفة والذي فيه الخصام غدا يكون خصيمها وفي هذا اليوم قال النعمان بن زيد ، صاحب راية الأنصار ، يبكي على الإسلام وعلى خلافهم النبي صلى الله عليه وآله .

— Say to the bald one of Hashim, if the two of you should meet him: you have loosed her roots. — And when Quraysh vied together in glory, you were the one worthy of it, and you were their chief. — And upon you the morning greeting was given, as Commander of the Faithful; yet they did not keep that greeting. — Banu Taym b. Murra broke their covenant, and so took their place in its fires and its blaze. — And they disputed on the day of the Saqifa; and He in whose hand the dispute lies will tomorrow be their adversary. — And on this day al-Nu'man b. Zayd, the standard-bearer of the Ansar, said, weeping over Islam and over their opposing the Prophet, may God bless him and his Family:

يا ناعي الإسلام قم وانعه قد مات عرف وأتى منكر ما لقريش لا على كعبها من قدموا اليوم ، ومن أخروا مثل علي من خفي أمره عليهم ، والشمس لا تستر وليس يطوي علم باهر سام يد الله له ينشر حتى يزيلوا صدع ملمومة والصدع في الصخرة لا يجبر كبش قريش في وغا حربها فاروقها صديقها الأكبر

— O you who announce the death of Islam, rise and announce it: the known has died and the unknown has come. — What ails Quraysh? Not upon their heel be it — those whom they have put forward today, and those whom they have put back. — One like 'Ali, whose affair is hidden from them — and the sun is not to be veiled; — nor is a dazzling and lofty knowledge to be folded away: the hand of God unfolds it for him — until they split open a solid mass; and the crack in the rock is not to be mended. — The ram of Quraysh in the clamour of her war, her discerner, her greatest truthful one;
