رؤوسنا وأدخل رجليه فيما بيننا ، وأخذت رجله اليمنى فضممتها إلى صدري ، وأخذت فاطمة عليها السلام رجله اليسرى فضممتها إلى صدرها ، وجعلنا ندفئ رجليه 9 من القر حتى إذا دفئتا قال : يا علي إئتني بكوز من ماء فأتيته فتفل فيه ، ثلثا وقرء فيه آيات من كتاب الله ، ثم قال : يا علي اشربه واترك فيه قليلا ، ففعلت ذلك ، فرش باقي الماء على رأسي وصدري ، وقال : أذهب الله عنك الرجس يا أبا الحسن وطهرك تطهيرا .
our heads, and put his feet in between us. And I took his right foot and drew it to my breast, and Fatima, peace be upon her, took his left foot and drew it to her breast, and we set about warming his feet [9] from the cold, until when they were warm he said: O 'Ali, bring me a jug of water. So I brought it to him, and he spat into it three times and recited over it verses from the Book of God; then he said: O 'Ali, drink it and leave a little of it. So I did that, and he sprinkled the remaining water upon my head and my breast, and said: God has removed uncleanness from you, O Abu al-Hasan, and purified you with a thorough purification.
وقال صلى الله عليه وآله : إيتني بماء جديد ، فأتيته به ففعل كما فعل وسلمه إلى ابنته وقال لها : اشربي واتركي منه قليلا .
And he, may God bless him and his Family, said: Bring me fresh water. So I brought it to him, and he did as he had done, and handed it to his daughter and said to her: Drink, and leave a little of it.
ففعلت فرشه على رأسه وصدرها وقال : أذهب الله عنك الرجس وطهرك تطهيرا .
She did so, and he sprinkled it upon her head and her breast and said: God has removed uncleanness from you and purified you with a thorough purification.
وأمرني بالخروج من البيت وخلا بابنته وقال : كيف أنت يا بنية ؟ وكيف رأيت زوجك ؟
Then he ordered me out of the house and was alone with his daughter, and said: How are you, my little daughter? And how do you find your husband?
قالت له : يا أبة خير زوج إلا أنه دخل علي نساء من قريش وقلن لي : زوجك رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله من فقير لا مال له ، فقال لها يا بنية ما أبوك بفقير ولا بعلك بفقير ولقد عرضت علي خزائن الأرض من الذهب والفضة ، فاخترت ما عند ربي عز وجل يا بنية : لو تعلمين ما علم أبوك لسمجت الدنيا في عينيك 10 ، والله يا بنية ما ألوتك نصحا 11 ، أن زوجتك أقدمهم سلما ، وأكثرهم علما ، وأعظمهم حلما ، يا بنية : إن الله عز وجل اطلع إلى الأرض إطلاعة فاختار من أهلها رجلين ، فجعل أحدهما أباك والآخر بعلك يا بنية : نعم الزوج زوجك لا تعصي له أمرا .
She said to him: Father, he is the best of husbands — except that women of Quraysh came in to me and said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, has married you to a poor man with no wealth. He said to her: My little daughter, your father is no poor man, nor is your husband poor. The treasuries of the earth, of gold and of silver, were offered to me, and I chose what is with my Lord, mighty and exalted. My little daughter, if you knew what your father knows, the world would look ugly in your eyes [10]. By God, my little daughter, I have not fallen short in counselling you [11]: I have married you to the earliest of them in submission, the greatest of them in knowledge, and the most eminent of them in forbearance. My little daughter, God, mighty and exalted, looked upon the earth with a single look and chose from its people two men: He made one of them your father and the other your husband. My little daughter, excellent is your husband as a husband; disobey no command of his.
ثم صاح بي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله يا علي فقلت : لبيك يا رسول الله ، قال : ادخل بيتك والطف بزوجتك وارفق بها ، " فإن فاطمة بضعة مني ، يؤلمني ما يؤلمها ، ويسرني ما يسرها ، أستودعكما الله وأستخلفه عليكما " .
Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, called out to me: O 'Ali! I said: At your service, O Messenger of God. He said: Enter your house, and be gentle with your wife and kind to her; for Fatima is a part of me — what pains her pains me, and what gladdens her gladdens me. I entrust you both to God, and appoint Him over you.
قال علي عليه السلام : " فوالله ما أغضبتها ولا أكرهتها على أمر حتى قبضها
'Ali, peace be upon him, said: By God, I never angered her, nor compelled her to any matter, until God, mighty and exalted, took her
