'Ali, peace be upon him, said: So I took the hand of Fatima, peace be upon her, and went with her until she sat at one side of the portico, and I sat at her side; and she was looking down at the ground out of shyness before me, and I was looking down at the ground out of shyness before her.

Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, came and said: Who is here?

We said: Enter, O Messenger of God; welcome to you as a visitor and as one entering. So he entered and seated Fatima at his side, and then said: O Fatima, bring me water. She rose to a wooden bowl in the house and filled it with water, then brought it to him. He took a mouthful and rinsed his mouth with it, then returned it into the bowl; then he poured some of it upon her head, and said: Come forward. And when she came forward he sprinkled some of it between her breasts. Then he said: Turn about. And she turned, and he sprinkled some of it between her shoulders. Then he said: O God, this is my daughter and the dearest of creation to me; O God, and this is my brother and the dearest of creation to me. O God, make him a friend to You and devoted to You, and bless him in his household. Then he said: O 'Ali, go in to your household; may God Most High bless you, and the mercy of God and His blessings be upon you; truly He is Praiseworthy, Glorious. [7]

And in another narration, 'Ali, peace be upon him, said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, stayed away three days after that, not coming in to us. Then on the morning of the fourth day he came to enter upon us, and he met in our chamber Asma' bint 'Umays al-Khath'amiyya. He said to her: What keeps you standing here, when there is a man in the chamber?

She said: May my father and my mother be your ransom, when a young woman is brought to her husband she has need of a woman to look after her and see to her needs; so I stayed here to see to the needs of Fatima, peace be upon her, [and to attend to her affairs. And the eyes of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, brimmed with tears.] He said: O Asma', may God fulfil for you the needs of this world and the next.

'Ali, peace be upon him, said: It was a cold [8] morning, and Fatima and I were under the cloak. When we heard the words of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, to Asma', we made to rise; but he said: By my right over you both, do not part until I come in to you. So we returned to our state, and he, may God bless him and his Family, entered and sat at
