قال علي عليه السلام : ثم قال لي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله يا علي إصنع لأهلك طعاما فاضلا ، ثم قال : من عندنا اللحم والخبز ، وعليك التمر والسمن ، فاشتريت تمرا وسمنا ، فحسر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله عن ذراعه وجعل يشدخ 5 التمر في السمن حتى اتخذه حيسا 6 ، وبعث إلينا كبشا سمينا فذبح وخبز لنا خبز كثير .

'Ali, peace be upon him, said: Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, said to me: O 'Ali, prepare for your household an excellent meal. Then he said: From us is the meat and the bread, and upon you are the dates and the clarified butter. So I bought dates and butter, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, bared his forearm and began to crush [5] the dates into the butter until he made of it a hays [6]; and he sent us a fat ram, and it was slaughtered, and much bread was baked for us.

ثم قال لي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله : أدع من أحببت ، فأتيت المسجد وهو مشحن بالصحابة ، فحييت أن أشخص قوما وأدع قوما ، ثم صعدت على ربوة هناك وناديت : أجيبوا إلى وليمة فاطمة ، فأقبل الناس إرسالا فاستحييت من كثرة الناس وقلة الطعام ، فعلم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله ما تداخلني ، فقال : يا علي إني سأدعو الله بالبركة .

Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, said to me: Invite whom you will. So I came to the mosque, and it was crowded with the companions; and I was ashamed to single out one people and leave another. Then I climbed upon a rise there and called out: Come to the wedding feast of Fatima! And the people came in throngs, and I was ashamed at the multitude of the people and the scantness of the food. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, knew what had entered me, and said: O 'Ali, I shall pray to God for blessing.

قال علي عليه السلام : فأكل القوم عن آخرهم طعامي وشربوا شرابي ، ودعوا لي بالبركة وصدروا وهم أكثر من أربعة آلاف رجل ولم ينقص من الطعام شئ .

'Ali, peace be upon him, said: So the people ate of my food to the last of them and drank of my drink, and prayed for blessing upon me and departed — and they were more than four thousand men — and nothing of the food was diminished.

ثم دعا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله بالصحاف فملئت ووجه بها إلى منازل أزواجه ، ثم أخذ صحفة وجعل فيها طعاما وقال : هذا لفاطمة وبعلها حتى إذا انصرفت الشمس للغروب ، قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله : يا أم سلمة هلمي فاطمة فانطلقت فأتت بها وهي تسحب أذيالها ، وقد تصببت عرقا حياء من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله فعثرت ، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله : أقالك الله العثرة في الدنيا والآخرة ، فلما وقفت بين يديه كشف الرداء عن وجهها حتى رآها علي عليه السلام ، ثم أخذ يدها فوضعها في يد علي عليه السلام وقال : بارك الله لك في ابنة رسول الله ، يا علي نعم الزوجة فاطمة ، ويا فاطمة نعم البعل علي ، انطلقا إلى منزلكما ولا تحدثا أمرا حتى آتيكما .

Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, called for the bowls, and they were filled and sent to the dwellings of his wives. Then he took a bowl and put food in it and said: This is for Fatima and her husband. And when the sun had turned to setting, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, said: O Umm Salama, bring Fatima. So she went and brought her, and she was trailing her skirts, and had broken out in sweat from shyness before the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family; and she stumbled. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, said: May God spare you stumbling in this world and the next. And when she stood before him he drew the cloak back from her face until 'Ali, peace be upon him, saw her; then he took her hand and placed it in the hand of 'Ali, peace be upon him, and said: God bless you in the daughter of the Messenger of God. O 'Ali, excellent is Fatima as a wife; and O Fatima, excellent is 'Ali as a husband. Go to your dwelling, and do not do anything until I come to you.
