and the Prophet, may God bless him and his Family, sat in her place with 'Ali, peace be upon him, and took his share with him in the grinding. [16]

And from certain of the books of the Manaqib, from Jabir b. 'Abd Allah: The Prophet, may God bless him and his Family, remained some days without tasting food, until that grew hard upon him. He went round the dwellings of his wives and found nothing with any one of them. So he came to Fatima, peace be upon her, and said: My little daughter, have you anything I may eat, for I am hungry?

She said: No, by God — may my father and my mother be your ransom. When he had gone out from her, a neighbour of hers sent her two loaves and a piece of meat. She took it from her and put it in a bowl of hers and covered it over, and said: I shall surely prefer the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, with it over myself and over those who are with me — and they were all in need of a fill of food. So she sent al-Hasan, or al-Husayn, to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, and he returned to her. She said: May my father and my mother be your ransom, God has brought us something, and I have put it away. He said: Bring it. So she brought it to him and uncovered the bowl, and behold, it was filled with bread and meat. When she looked at it she was astounded, and knew that it was an honour from God, mighty and exalted; so she praised God and invoked blessing upon His prophet. He, may God bless him and his Family, said: Whence is this to you, my little daughter?

She said: It is from God; truly God provides for whom He will without reckoning. So he praised God, mighty and exalted, and said: Praise belongs to God, who has made you like the mistress of the women of the worlds among the women of the Children of Israel in their time; for when God Most High provided for her and she was asked about it, she would say: It is from God; truly God provides for whom He will without reckoning.

Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, sent for 'Ali, peace be upon him; and the Messenger of God, 'Ali, Fatima, al-Hasan and al-Husayn, peace be upon them, and all the wives of the Prophet, may God bless him and his Family, and the people of his house — all ate and were satisfied, and the bowl remained as it was. Fatima, peace be upon her, said: And I gave abundantly from it to all my neighbours, and God placed in it blessing and good, as God did with Maryam. [17]
