And she was named al-Zahra because she would shine with light for the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, three times in the day. [4]
It is related from Abu Hashim al-Ja'fari, who said: I asked the master of al-'Askar, peace be upon him: Why was Fatima named al-Zahra?
He said: Her face would shine for the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, at the beginning of the day like the sun in its brightness,
and at midday like the shining moon, and at the setting of the sun like the glittering star. [5]
Al-Saduq related from Abu al-Hasan al-Rida, peace be upon him, in a hadith, that he said: When the crescent of the month of Ramadan rose, the light of Fatima, peace be upon her, would overcome the crescent and it would be hidden; and when she was absent from it, it appeared. [6]
And from al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, who said: She was named al-Zahra because she has in the Garden a dome of red ruby, its height in the air a year's journey, suspended by the power of the Almighty — it has no tie above it to hold it, and no pillar beneath it to bear it. It has a hundred thousand gates, at every gate a thousand of the angels. The people of the Garden behold it as one of you beholds the glittering, shining star in the horizon of the sky, and they say: This is al-Zahra, which belongs to Fatima, God's blessings be upon her. [7]
And it is related in a report also that when God, mighty and exalted, wished to try the angels, He sent upon them a cloud of darkness, so that the angels could not see the first of them from the last of them, nor the last from the first. They asked God, glory be to Him, to lift it from them, and God Most High answered them: He created the light of Fatima al-Zahra that day like a lamp, and hung it upon the pendant of the Throne, and the seven heavens and the seven earths shone. It is for that reason that she was named al-Zahra.
And the angels were glorifying God and declaring Him holy; and God said: By My might
