The Fourth Chapter On the greatness of her sorrow and her weeping for her father (may God bless him and his Family) and for herself, and the beginning of her illness, and the length of her stay in this world after her father, and the Commander of the Faithful's (peace be upon him) concealing of her grave by a charge from her, the peace of God be upon her Section When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, was taken, the small and the great and the men and the women were stricken with grief for him, and the wailing and the weeping over him grew great. And Medina became one clamour, shedding tears for him in streams, [1] and its people had an outcry of weeping like the outcry of the pilgrims when they raise their voices in the state of consecration. And there was none but a weeping man and a weeping woman, and a lamenting man and a lamenting woman. And his loss was grievous upon his goodly household, especially upon 'Ali, his cousin and his brother, the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him. For there came down upon him from the death of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, what he did not suppose the mountains, had they borne it, would have been able to rise under. And his household were between one in anguish who could not master his anguish nor restrain himself nor find strength to bear the crushing weight of what had come down upon him —

anguish having taken away his patience and bewildered his mind and come between him and understanding and being understood, and speaking and hearing — and the rest of the people, other than the Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib, between a consoler who bids patience and a sympathizer weeping for their weeping, in anguish for their anguish. And there was not among them all one more intense in sorrow than our Lady Fatima al-Zahra',
