— She was more God-fearing before God, and was — the most excellent of creation in chastity and purity. — Ask, for the voiding of their saying, the sura of the Ant, — and ask Maryam, which comes before Ta Ha. — In them both there is news of the inheritance of Yahya — and of Solomon, for whoever desires to be awakened. — So she called out and complained to God of that, — and her two eyes overflowed with her tears. — Then she said: A gift, then, from — my father the Chosen One? And they did not grant her the gift. — So she produced witnesses for it, and they said: — Her husband is a witness for her, and her two sons. — They did not admit the testimony of the two sons of the Messenger — of God, the guide of mankind, when they opposed her. — 'Ali was not truthful, nor was — Fatima, in their eyes, nor her two sons. — A household who did not know the ways of injustice, — so that it was confused and doubtful to them. — Was 'Atiq more God-fearing than they? — Ugly is the speaker of the absurd, and disgraced. — They made her swallow, after her father, — rage many times; and evil is what they made her swallow. — Would that I knew what harm it would have done the two of them, — in keeping the covenant of the Prophet, had they kept it. — It would have been an honouring of the Seal of the Messengers, the guide, — the bearer of glad tidings and the warner, had they honoured her. — And the fair thing would have been that they give her — Fadak, not that they cut it off from her entirely. — Do you suppose the Muslims would have blamed the two of them — for the giving, had they given it to her? — Was there beneath the green sky a daughter of a prophet, — truthful, speaking, trustworthy, other than her? — Daughter of whom? Mother of whom? Wife of whom? — Woe to him who set the example of wronging and harming her.
