ينجينا منه إلا ثلاث خصال ، احديها : أنه واحد لا ناصر له ، والثانية : أنه يتبع 22 فينا وصية رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ، والثالثة : فما من هذه القبائل أحد إلا وهو يتخضمه كتخضم ثنية الإبل أوان الربيع ، فتعلم لولا ذلك لرجع الأمر إليه ولو كنا له كارهين ، أما إن هذه الدنيا أهون علي من لقاء أحدنا الموت الخ 23 .

delivers us from him but three traits: the first, that he is one man with no helper; the second, that he follows [22] concerning us the charge of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family; and the third, that there is not one of these tribes but he has chewed it up as the young camel chews the herbage in springtime. So know that, but for this, the affair would return to him even though we were unwilling. Now, this world is lighter to me than that one of us should meet death — and so on. [23]

( ذكر خطبة فاطمة الزهرا عليها السلام ) الاحتجاج ، روى عبد الله بن الحسن بإسناده عن آبائه عليهم السلام إنه : لما أجمع أبو بكر [ وعمر ] على منع فاطمة عليها السلام فدكا وبلغها ذلك ، لاثت 24 خمارها على رأسها ، أو اشتملت بجلبابها 25 وأقبلت في لمة من حفدتها ونساء قومها وتطأ ذيولها ما تخرم مشيتها مشية رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله حتى دخلت على أبي بكر وهو في حشد من المهاجرين والأنصار وغيرهم .

(Mention of the sermon of Fatima al-Zahra', peace be upon her) Al-Ihtijaj: 'Abd Allah b. al-Hasan related, with his chain from his forefathers, peace be upon them: that when Abu Bakr [and 'Umar] resolved upon barring Fatima, peace be upon her, from Fadak, and that reached her, she wound [24] her head-covering upon her head and wrapped herself in her outer garment [25] and came forward in a company of her attendants and the women of her people, trailing her skirts, her gait not departing in anything from the gait of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, until she entered upon Abu Bakr, and he was in a throng of the Emigrants and the Ansar and others.

فنطيت 26 دونها ملائة ، فجلست ، ثم أنت أنة أجهش 27 القوم لها بالبكاء ، فارتج المجلس ، ثم أمهلت هنيئة حتى إذا سكن نشيج القوم وهدأت فورتهم افتتحت الكلام بحمد الله والثناء عليه والصلاة على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله فعاد القوم في بكائهم ، فلما أمسكوا عادت في كلامها ، فقالت صلوات الله عليها : الحمد لله على ما أنعم وله الشكر على ما ألهم والثناء بما قدم من عموم نعم

And a curtain was hung [26] before her, and she sat. Then she gave a moan at which the people burst out [27] weeping, and the assembly shook. Then she waited a little, until, when the people's sobbing had quietened and their outburst had stilled, she opened her speech with the praise of God and extolling of Him and the blessing upon the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family. And the people returned to their weeping; and when they held back, she returned to her speech, and said, the blessings of God be upon her: Praise belongs to God for what He has bestowed, and thanks to Him for what He has inspired, and extolling for what He has sent before of the universal favours
