أقول : إني أحتمل قويا كما أنه أثر الحمى في جسده اللطيف ، كذلك أثر كتمان حزنه على أمه المظلومة في قلبه الشريف ، فكما أنه يطفي حرارة جسده بالماء يطفي لوعه وجده بذكر اسم فاطمة سيدة النساء ، وذلك مثل ما يظهر من الحزين المهموم من تنفس الصعداء ، فإن تأثير مصيبتها صلوات الله عليها على قلوب أولادها الأئمة الأطهار ألم من حز الشفار وأحر من جمرة النار ، فإنهم صلوات الله عليهم من باب التقية لما كانوا بانين على كتمانها غير قادرين على إظهارها ، فإذا ذكرت فاطمة صلوات الله عليها يبدو منهم سلام الله عليهم مما كتموه ما يستدل به الأريب الفطن بما في قلوبهم الشريفة من الحزن والمحن .

I say: I hold it strongly probable that, just as the fever left its mark upon his delicate body, so the concealing of his grief for his wronged mother left its mark upon his noble heart. And as he quenched the heat of his body with water, so he quenched his burning and his sorrow by mentioning the name of Fatima, mistress of women — and that is like what appears in the grieving and the careworn in the drawing of a deep breath. For the effect of her calamity, the blessings of God be upon her, upon the hearts of her children, the pure Imams, is a pain sharper than the cutting of blades and hotter than the ember of fire. For they, the blessings of God be upon them, being bound by dissimulation to conceal it and unable to make it public — when Fatima, the blessings of God be upon her, was mentioned, there would appear from them, the peace of God be upon them, something of what they had concealed, by which the shrewd and discerning may infer what is in their noble hearts of sorrow and of trials.

كما روي عن أبي عبد الله الصادق عليه السلام إنه قال للسكوني وكان قد رزقه الله تعالى بنتا ما سميتها ؟

As it is related from Abu 'Abd Allah al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said to al-Sakuni — and God, exalted, had granted him a daughter: What have you named her?

قال قلت فاطمة قال : آه آه ، ثم وضع يده على جبهته الخ 11 .

He said: I said, Fatima. He said: Ah, ah! And then he put his hand upon his forehead — and so on. [11]

وذكرت سابقا إن العباس لما قال لأمير المؤمنين عليه السلام : ما منع عمر من أن يغرم قنفذا كما غرم جميع عماله ؟

And I mentioned earlier that when al-'Abbas said to the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him: What prevented 'Umar from fining Qunfudh as he fined all his governors?

فنظر علي عليه السلام إلى من حوله ، ثم اغرورقت عيناه ، ثم قال : شكر له ضربة ضربها فاطمة عليها السلام بالسوط فماتت وإن في عضدها أثره كأنه الدملج 12 .

So 'Ali, peace be upon him, looked at those around him, and then his two eyes brimmed with tears, and then he said: He thanked him for a blow he struck Fatima, peace be upon her, with the whip — and she died, and upon her upper arm was its mark, as though it were an armlet. [12]

ومن تأمل فيما حكي عنهم من شفقتهم ورأفتهم ورقة قلوبهم الشريفة ورحمته يصدق ما ذكرت .

And whoever reflects upon what is related of them, of their tenderness and their compassion and the softness of their noble hearts and their mercy, will affirm what I have said.

أنظر إلى ما رواه المشايخ عن بشار المكاري ، إنه قال : دخلت على أبي عبد الله عليه السلام بالكوفة وقد قدم له طبق رطب طبر زد وهو يأكل ، فقال لي : يا بشار أدن فكل ، قلت : هنأك الله وجعلني فداك قد أخذتني الغيرة من شئ رأيته في طريقي أوجع
