And al-Shaykh al-Kulayni, may his secret be sanctified, related from Abu Ja'far and Abu 'Abd Allah, peace be upon them both, who said: When there had been of their affair what there was, Fatima, peace be upon her, took hold of the gathers of 'Umar's garment and pulled him towards her and then said: Now, by God, O son of al-Khattab, were it not that I hate that the affliction should strike one who has no sin, you would know that I would swear an oath upon God, and then find Him swift to answer. [11]

And it is also related that: when 'Ali, peace be upon him, was brought out, Fatima, the blessings of God be upon her, went out with the shirt of the Messenger of God upon her head, taking the hands of her two sons, and said: What have I to do with you, O Abu Bakr? Do you intend to orphan my two sons and to widow me of my husband?

By God, were it not that it would be an evil deed, I would loose my hair and cry out to my Lord. A man of the people said: What do you intend by this? Then she took his hand and went off with him. [12]

And in another report, from Abu Ja'far, peace be upon him, he said: By God, had she loosed her hair, they would all have died. [13]

[On 'Umar and Khalid bringing 'Ali (peace be upon him) and al-Zubayr to the pledge.

] Ibn Abi al-Hadid related, from the Book of the Saqifa by al-Jawhari, with his chain from al-Sha'bi, who said: Abu Bakr said: O 'Umar, where is Khalid b. al-Walid?

He said: Here he is. He said: Go, the two of you, to them — meaning 'Ali and al-Zubayr — and bring them both to me. So 'Umar entered, and Khalid stood at the door outside; and 'Umar said to al-Zubayr: What is this sword?

He said: I have made it ready to pledge to 'Ali. He said: And in the house were many people, among them al-Miqdad b. al-Aswad and the body of the Hashimites. So 'Umar drew the sword and struck a stone in the house with it and broke it. Then he took al-Zubayr by the hand and made him stand, then pushed him and put him out, and said: O Khalid, take this one. So Khalid held him; and outside the house there was with Khalid a great gathering of people whom Abu Bakr had sent
