'Ubada. [7] It is related from some of our companions, from the People of the House, peace be upon them: that 'Umar met Khalid b. al-Walid one day during his caliphate in one of the walled gardens of Medina, and said to him: O Khalid, are you the one who killed Malik?
He said: O Commander of the Faithful, if I killed Malik b. Nuwayra for matters that were between me and him, then I killed for you Sa'd b. 'Ubada for matters that were between you and him. And his words pleased 'Umar, and he drew him to his breast and said to him: You are the sword of God and the sword of His Messenger. End of quotation. [8]
