ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ۝١

1Read in the name of your Lord Who created.

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ۝٢

2He created man from a clot.

ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ۝٣

3Read and your Lord is Most Honorable,

ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ۝٤

4Who taught (to write) with the pen

عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ۝٥

5Taught man what he knew not.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ۝٦

6Nay! man is most surely inordinate,

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ۝٧

7Because he sees himself free from want.

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ۝٨

8Surely to your Lord is the return.

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ۝٩

9Have you seen him who forbids

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ۝١٠

10A servant when he prays?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ۝١١

11Have you considered if he were on the right way,

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ۝١٢

12Or enjoined guarding (against evil)?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ۝١٣

13Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back?

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ۝١٤

14Does he not know that Allah does see?

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ۝١٥

15Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead,

نَاصِيَةٍ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ۝١٦

16A lying, sinful forehead.

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ۝١٧

17Then let him summon his council,

سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ۝١٨

18We too would summon the braves of the army.

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩۝١٩

19Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah).
