is a crown of splendour; and these lights spread through all the courts of the Resurrection, over a span of three hundred thousand years' journey, and the rays of their crowns reach through the whole of it. There no orphan whom they took charge of, whom they delivered from the darkness of ignorance and brought out of the bewilderment of error, shall remain but that he takes hold of a ray of those lights and clings to it and rises, until he comes before the Garden. Then each of them is set down in the station appointed for him beforehand, beside his teachers and instructors, and brought into the presence of the Imams to whom they called them. And the rays of those crowns strike the enemies of the Household blind, deaf and dumb, and drive them to the Fire.

It is related from Imam al-'Askari, peace be upon him, that he said: Among those who love Muhammad and the family of Muhammad — may God bless him and his family — are poor folk whose support is better than the support of the poor who lack wealth: they are those who are powerless before our enemies and who are met with the objection, reproach and taunting of the opponents. So whoever takes the hand of this company, and strengthens them with the weapon of knowledge and proof against the enemy, and removes their poverty and incapacity and makes them prevail over the enemy — God, exalted, will likewise make them ever victorious over their enemies among the devils of men and jinn, and will make incapacity and helplessness overcome their opponents.

"Al-tih", with kasra, means straying and error. "Al-tahawwul" means moving from one place to another, and it carries also the sense of mastery — that is, this ray reaches to every quarter while holding mastery over it; or the moving implies the sense of power. "Fa-yahmiluhum": that is, this ray, or a branch of it, encompasses the Nasibis, and the zabaniya — or the ray — summon them to the midst of the Fire. "Yusaffihun ahlamahum" means they ascribe their minds to folly. "Ila shayatinihim" means the devils of this company of guiding scholars.

The Commentary of Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari, peace be upon him, and al-Ihtijaj: It is related from Imam al-'Askari, peace be upon him, that the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, said: Whoever strengthens a servant who is powerless in knowledge and understanding, and equips him against the enemy and makes him prevail, God shall at the hour of questioning in the grave prompt him with these words:
