And he said: One who knows and does not act is like a lamp that gives light to people while burning itself away.

The Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — said: Whoever learns religious knowledge for other than God's pleasure, his purpose in it being the goods of this world, shall not reach the fragrance of the Garden on the Day of Resurrection.
The Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — said: Whoever learns knowledge for other than God and intends by it other than God, let him make ready his seat in the Fire of Hell.
The Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — said: Do not learn knowledge in order to wrangle with the foolish by it, or to dispute with the scholars by it, or to turn people's faces towards yourselves. Seek by your speech the pleasure of God, for that endures and abides, while all else perishes. Be springs of wisdom, lamps of guidance, keepers of your homes, lamps of the night, renewers of hearts and wearers-out of garments — so that you may be known in the heavens and remain unknown on earth.
The Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — said: He enters the Fire who learns knowledge for four ends: first, to vaunt himself over the scholars by it; second, to wrangle with the foolish by it; third, to turn people's faces towards himself; fourth, to take something from rulers by it.

Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, said: Whoever learns knowledge in order to vaunt himself by it over the scholars, or to wrangle by it with the foolish, or to turn people's faces towards himself — let him make ready his place in Hell. Leadership is fitting for none but those worthy of it.
From the words of Jesus, peace be upon him: You work for this world, though you are provided for in it without much toil; yet you do not work for the Hereafter, though in the Hereafter you are provided for only through works. Woe to you, evil scholars! You take your wage,
