If falsehood were pure, it would not remain hidden from anyone; and if the truth were so [pure], no disagreement would arise. But they take a handful of truth and a handful of falsehood and mix them together. Here Satan prevails over his followers, and those destined for a goodly end are saved.
"Al-hija" means intellect, and "al-dighth" means a handful of plants in which the dry and the fresh are mixed. "God's goodly [decree] has preceded for them" means a goodly end or a goodly will in God's prior knowledge, which is His inevitable decree for them.

Al-Sara'ir: Ibn Qulawayh relates from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, from the Prophet, may God bless him and his family, that he said: One who calls to misguidance is always under God's wrath until he turns back from it; and whoever dies without an Imam has died the death of the age of ignorance.

Ma'ani al-Akhbar, Amali al-Saduq and al-Tawhid: Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, said: When Jesus son of Mary was born, in a single day he appeared as though two months old; and at seven months his mother took his hand and brought him to a teacher and seated him before the tutor. The tutor said to him: Say "In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful". Jesus said: In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. The tutor said to him: Say "abjad". Jesus raised his head and said to him: Do you know what "abjad" means? He raised his whip to strike him. He said: O tutor, do not strike me. If you know, then it is nothing; and if you do not know, ask me and I shall teach you. He said: Teach me its interpretation. Jesus said: "Alif" is God's bounties, "ba'" is God's splendour, "jim" is God's beauty, "dal" is God's religion. "Hawwaz": "ha'" is the terror of Hell, "waw" is woe to the people of the Fire,
