The Imam said: My father related from his fathers, peace be upon them, from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, that he said: God, blessed and exalted, created the eyes of man from fat and placed saltiness in them; and were it not so, the eyes would melt away. And the saltiness casts out the specks that fall into the eye. And He made bitterness in the ears a veil and covering for the brain, and no insect or creature enters the ear but that it seeks to come out again; and were it not for this bitterness in the ear, the insect that entered the ear would make its way to the brain. And likewise the Truth, Mighty and Majestic, bestowed a favour upon man and placed sweetness in his lips, so that by that sweetness he may find the moisture of his mouth and feel the taste of what he eats and drinks. And He placed coldness in the nasal passage so that whatever arises in the head may be expelled by this moisture and coldness and may not remain there. I said: What is that word whose beginning is unbelief and whose end is faith? He said: It is a person's saying "There is no god but God"; its beginning is unbelief and its end is faith. Then the Imam said: O Nu'man, beware of analogy, for my father related from his fathers, from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, that he said: Whoever uses analogy, God will make him the companion of Iblis in the Fire, for he was the first to use analogy against his Lord. So abandon acting by opinion and analogy, for the foundation of religion is not built upon analogy and opinion.
بيان: قوله عليه السلام و لا فرضك معطوف على قوله شيئا أو على الضمير المنصوب في أراك و الأول أظهر.
"La fardaka" is in apposition to "shay'an", or in apposition to the accusative pronoun in "araka", and the former is better.

'Ilal al-Shara'i': Ja'far b. Muhammad b. Masrur, may God have mercy on him, related from Muhammad b. al-Jumhur al-'Ammi, with his chain, that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said: God the Exalted refuses to accept the repentance of an innovator. It was said in his blessed presence: O Messenger of God, why is it so? He said: Because the love of and attachment to innovation has taken root in his heart.
ثو، ثواب الأعمال ابن الوليد عن الصفار عن ابن يزيد عن العمي مثله بيان لعل المراد أنه لا يوفق للتوبة كما يظهر من التعليل أو لا تقبل توبته قبولا كاملا.
Thawab al-A'mal: Ibn al-Walid related the like of it from al-'Ammi. From the reason stated in the hadith it is to be understood that he is not granted the success of repentance, or that his repentance is not accepted completely.
