«22»- مع، معاني الأخبار أَبِی عَنْ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الْبَرْقِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى الْوَاسِطِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْعَلَوِيِّ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ: قِيلَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى اللّٰه عليه و آله مَا جَمَاعَةُ أُمَّتِكَ قَالَ مَنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ وَ إِنْ كَانُوا عَشَرَةً.

Ma'ani al-Akhbar: 'Abdallah al-'Alawi related: It was said to the Prophet of God, may God bless him and his family: Who are the community of your people? He said: Those who are upon the [path of] truth, even if they be ten men.

سن، المحاسن أبو يحيى الواسطي مثله.

Al-Mahasin: Abu Yahya al-Wasiti related the like of it.

«23»- مع، معاني الأخبار أَبِی عَنْ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الْبَرْقِيِّ عَنِ الْحَجَّالِ عَنِ ابْنِ حُمَيْدٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عليه السلام فَقَالَ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ السُّنَّةِ وَ الْبِدْعَةِ وَ عَنِ الْجَمَاعَةِ وَ عَنِ الْفِرْقَةِ فَقَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ السُّنَّةُ مَا سَنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللّٰه عليه و آله وَ الْبِدْعَةُ مَا أُحْدِثَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَ الْجَمَاعَةُ أَهْلُ الْحَقِّ وَ إِنْ كَانُوا قَلِيلًا وَ الْفِرْقَةُ أَهْلُ الْبَاطِلِ وَ إِنْ كَانُوا كَثِيراً.

Ma'ani al-Akhbar: 'Asim b. Humayd related: A man came to the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, and said: What is the meaning of these words: practice, innovation, community and sect? The Commander of the Faithful said: "Practice" is the way and method that the Prophet, may God bless him and his family, laid down; "innovation" is a method that has appeared after him; "the community" are the people of truth, even if they are few; and "the sect" are the followers of falsehood, even if they are many.

«24»- سن، المحاسن فِي رِوَايَةِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عليه السلام قَالَ: مَنْ خَلَعَ جَمَاعَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَدْرَ شِبْرٍ خَلَعَ رِبْقَةَ الْإِيمَانِ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ ١

Al-Mahasin: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Whoever keeps away from the community of the Muslims by the measure of a hand-span has removed the halter of faith from his neck.

«25»- سن، المحاسن عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْعَمْرِيُّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ مُوسَى عليه السلام قَالَ: ثَلَاثٌ مُوبِقَاتٌ نَكْثُ الصَّفْقَةِ وَ تَرْكُ السُّنَّةِ وَ فِرَاقُ الْجَمَاعَةِ.

Al-Mahasin: 'Ali b. Ja'far related from Musa b. Ja'far, peace be upon him, that he said: Three sins are among the grave sins: 1. breaking the pledge of allegiance; 2. abandoning the practice; 3. separation from the community of the Muslims.

سن، المحاسن النوفلي عن السكوني عن الصادق عن آبائه عن أمير المؤمنين صلوات اللّٰه عليهم مثله بيان نكث الصفقة نقض البيعة و إنما سميت البيعة صفقة لأن المتبايعين يضع أحدهما يده في يد الآخر عندها.

Al-Mahasin: Al-Sakuni related the like of it from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, from 'Ali, peace be upon him. The pledge of allegiance has been called "safqa" because those giving allegiance, at the time of giving it, each place their hand in the hand of the other.

«26»- سن، المحاسن الْوَشَّاءُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عليه السلام قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللّٰه عليه و آله إِنَّ الْقَلِيلَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كَثِيرٌ.

Al-Mahasin: Abu Basir related from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, that he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said: The believers — few of them are many.

«27»- نی، الغيبة للنعماني ابْنُ عُقْدَةَ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُحَمَّدِيِّ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ شَعِرٍ عَنْ مُخَوَّلٍ عَنْ فُرَاتِ بْنِ أَحْنَفَ عَنِ ابْنِ نُبَاتَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عليه السلام عَلَى مِنْبَرِ الْكُوفَةِ يَقُولُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَنَا أَنْفُ الْهُدَى وَ عَيْنَاهُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَا تَسْتَوْحِشُوا فِي طَرِيقِ الْهُدَى لِقِلَّةِ مَنْ يَسْلُكُهُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ اجْتَمَعُوا عَلَى مَائِدَةٍ قَلِيلٍ شِبَعُهَا كَثِيرٍ جُوعُهَا وَ اللَّهُ _

Al-Ghayba of al-Nu'mani: Al-Asbagh b. Nubata says: I heard the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, say on the pulpit of Kufa: O people, I am the nose and the two eyes of guidance [I am the leader]. O people, do not be dismayed at the fewness of those travelling the road of guidance. People have gathered around a table whose satisfying is little and whose hunger is much. God

(١)1- الربقة بفتح الراء و كسرها و سكون الباء و فتح القاف، حبل مستطيل فيه عری تربط فيها البهائم، و فيه استعارة للحكم الجامع للمؤمنين و هو استحقاق الثواب و التعظيم الدائم. كذا قيل"Al-ribqa" — with fatha or kasra on the ra', sukun on the ba' and fatha on the qaf — is a long rope in which there are loops with which beasts are tied; and here it is a metaphor for that comprehensive ruling of the believers, namely their deserving of reward and perpetual honour. So it has been said.
