Basa'ir al-Darajat: Muhammad b. Muslim says: I asked the Imam, peace be upon him, about the inheritance of knowledge: is it general principles from which you derive rulings, or is there a particular narration and text about matters such as divorce and inheritance which people discuss? He said: 'Ali, peace be upon him, wrote down all the sciences and the obligations; if the government were in our hands, the Sunna would answer everything, and our Qa'im will carry it out.
Elucidation: "Ma balagha" in the hadith is in apposition to "the inheritance of knowledge" — that is, the inheritance of knowledge that has reached you. "A-jawami'?": that is, is the inheritance of knowledge general principles from which the particulars of the rulings are derived, or has a particular text come in each of those particular cases? "Yumdiha 'ala al-ghayba": no practice remains but that the Imam of the Age (may God hasten his relief) will carry it out or speak concerning it.

Basa'ir al-Darajat: Abu Usama says: I was with Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, and a man of the Mughiriyya group was also present and asked about certain practices. The Imam said: All the needs of the children of Adam have been set out in the practice of God and His Messenger; had it not been so, God would not have argued against us. Al-Mughiri says: I asked: What is God's argument? Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: The words of God, exalted: "Today I have perfected your religion for you and completed My blessing upon you and have approved Islam as a religion for you. But whoever is driven by hunger, with no inclination to sin — then truly God is Forgiving, Merciful." Had the practice and the obligations of God and the matters people need not been complete, God would not have argued by this verse.

Al-Mahasin: Muhammad b. Hakim relates from the seventh Imam, peace be upon him, that he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, brought them that with which they were sufficed in his lifetime and by which they were made independent after him.
