he quoted from the hand of Qutb al-Din al-Kaydari, from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said: Give our words their vowel endings, for we are a people of eloquence.

Elucidation: That is, set out our words plainly and make them clear; or do not neglect the rules of inflection in them; or vowel its wording when writing it.

Da'awat al-Rawandi: Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, said: Truly our hadiths give life to hearts. And he said: Their benefit in religion is harder upon Satan than the worship of seventy thousand worshippers.

Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: There is no objection to your relating hadith from us; may God have mercy on one who gives life to our walaya.

Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Truly the scholars are the heirs of the prophets; for the prophets left no dirhams or dinars as inheritance, and left as inheritance only their own hadiths. Whoever takes anything of those hadiths has truly received an abundant share. So look to whom you are taking your knowledge from.

Munyat al-Murid: The like of it is related, but with this addition at the end: Truly among us, the People of the House, there are in every age just men who keep from that religion the distortion of the extremists, the inclination to the esoteric schools, and the interpretation of the ignorant.

Majma' al-Bayan, in explaining the noble verse "And if they had kept straight upon the path, We would surely have given them abundant water to drink": in the explanation of the People of the House, peace be upon them, it comes from Abu Basir: I said to Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him: What is the meaning of the words of God, exalted: "Truly those who say: Our Lord is God, and then stand firm"? He said: By God, what is meant by this verse is the walaya that you hold. And he said: "And if they had kept straight upon the path, We would surely have given them abundant water to drink."

And Burayd al-'Ijli related from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said: The meaning of the above noble verse is that We would have bestowed much knowledge and learning, which people would learn from the Imams, peace be upon them.

Kanz al-Karajaki: The Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, said: Visit one another and discuss hadith together. If you do not do this, the hadiths grow stale and are lost.

Munyat al-Murid: It is related from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, that he said: Fetter knowledge. It was said: What is the fettering of knowledge?
