Chapter 19: The merit of writing down hadith and relating it

Amali of al-Saduq: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said: Any believer who dies and leaves behind a single page on which there is knowledge — that page will be a veil between him and the Fire on the Day of Resurrection, and God, blessed and exalted, will give him for every letter written on it a city seven times the size of this world.

It has been quoted from the hand of al-Shahid al-Thani, from the hand of Qutb al-Din al-Kaydari, from the Prophet, may God bless him and his family, the like of it, with this addition at the end: There is no believer who sits an hour with a scholar but that his Lord calls to him: You have sat with My friend! By My might and majesty, I shall settle you with them in Paradise, and I care not.

And he related this hadith in the book al-Durra al-Bahira min al-Asdaf al-Tahira.

Amali of al-Saduq: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said three times: O God, have mercy on my successors! They said: O Messenger of God, who are your successors? He said: Those who convey my hadith and my practice and teach them to my community.

'Uyun Akhbar al-Rida, peace be upon him: By three chains, Imam al-Rida, peace be upon him, related from his forefathers, from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, that he said three times: O God, have mercy on my successors! They said: O Messenger of God, who are your successors? He said: Those who come after me and convey my hadith and my practice and hand them on to the people who come after me.

Sahifat al-Rida, peace be upon him: The like of the hadith above is related.

'Awali al-La'ali: In the book 'Awali al-La'ali the like of it is related from the Prophet, with this addition at the end: They are my companions in Paradise.

Amali of al-Saduq: Fudayl says: Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, said to me: O Fudayl, our hadiths give life to hearts.

Al-Khisal: Khaythama says: Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, said to me: Visit one another in your houses, for this act gives life to our walaya; may God have mercy on a servant who gives life to our walaya.
