and one who serves God in religion by denying something of God's signs has no religion.

Rijal al-Kashshi: Mu'adh al-Nahwi related from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said to me: I have heard that you sit in the congregational mosque and give people rulings? I said: Yes! And I wished to ask you about this before I left here: I sit in the congregational mosque, and someone comes and asks me about something; when I recognise him as one of your opponents, I inform him according to their own ruling. And someone comes whom I know to be your friend, or who claims to be your friend, so I inform him with your hadiths. And someone else comes whom I do not know, so I say: from so-and-so such a hadith has come and from so-and-so such; and in the midst of the discussion I bring in your hadith. He said to me: I do the same; carry on with your work.
Nawadir al-Rawandi: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said: Whoever gives rulings without knowledge and learning, the angels of heaven and earth curse him.
Nahj al-Balagha: And he said: Whoever abandons saying "I do not know" delivers himself to slaughter.
Elucidation: That is, whoever answers every question perishes. In some copies it reads "usibat kalimatuhu" — that is, his words in answering are drawn towards ignorance.
Nahj al-Balagha: And he said: Do not say what you do not know; rather, do not say everything you do know. For God has made certain things obligatory upon your limbs, and on the Day of Rising He will bring proof against you by those limbs.
And he said: The sign of faith is that you prefer truthfulness, even though it harm you, to falsehood, even though it profit you; and that your words not exceed your deeds; and that when you speak of another, the fear of God come into your heart.
Elucidation: "Harm" here may be taken as harm that does not reach the point where dissimulation becomes obligatory. "Hadith al-ghayr" may be taken to mean relating from others, or backbiting and the like; or what is meant is not hastening, out of envy and wrangling, to reject and deny another's words while knowing well the truth of what the other says.
Nahj al-Balagha: In his counsel to al-Hasan, peace be upon him, he said: Do not say what you do not know, even though what you do know be little.
Kanz al-Karajaki: Were the ignorant to keep silent, disagreement would disappear.
