and took their titles for himself — God says this and makes it reach all the people of the gathering, and there remains no unbeliever, no tyrant and no devil but that he invokes blessings upon this breaker of the enemies of Muhammad — may God bless him and his family — and curses those who were hostile to him in the world, from among the enemies of Muhammad and 'Ali, God's blessings be upon them both.

The Commentary of Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari, peace be upon him: It is related from Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari, peace be upon him, that Imam al-Rida, peace be upon him, said: The best provision a learned man who loves us can store up for the day of his poverty, need and abasement is his learned defence of our weak friends and their rescue from the clutches of the enemies of God and His Messenger. Then, when he rises from the grave, he shall see ranks of angels drawn up from the place of his grave to his station in the highest Garden; they lift him upon their wings and carry him to his own dwelling in the Garden, saying to him: Well done! Blessed are you, O you who subdued the enemies of the good and defended and supported your pure Imams!

The Commentary of Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari, peace be upon him: Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari, peace be upon him, related from Imam al-Jawad, peace be upon him, that he said: God's proofs upon His religion are the greatest sovereignty and gift that God has given His servants mastery of. Whoever increases his own share of God's proofs will never feel that one who has no share of them has gained any merit over him — even were that man at the highest summit of rank, wealth and beauty. But if one who has a share of those proofs supposes that the man of rank, wealth and beauty is superior to him, then he has without doubt belittled the great blessing of God that is with him. That he should repel the harm of one of our Nasibi enemies by the knowledge he has learned from us, the Household, is better for him than all the wealth given to that man who seems above him — even had he given a thousand times as much in charity.

The Commentary of Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari, peace be upon him, and al-Ihtijaj: It is related by the foregoing chain: One day a company of those who love the family of Muhammad — may God bless him and his family — came to Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari and said: O son of the Messenger of God, in our neighbourhood lives one of the enemies of the Household who constantly troubles us and adduces arguments for the superiority of the three caliphs over the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, which we cannot answer. The Imam, peace be upon him, said: I shall send you a man to confute him and refute his arguments. Then he charged one of his students to be present at their session of debate with that man and to listen to their talk, and when he asked leave to speak, to strive as far as he could to show the falsity of that man's words and the emptiness of his belief and confute him completely. So he rose and went with them and was present at their debate, and entered the discussion in the Imam's own manner, and defeated and confuted him utterly.
