to attain offices other than that of judgeship; and the second is one who has made himself ready for the office of judge.

"Tih" means bewilderment and misguidance — that is, where are Satan and the people taking you in this bewilderment? Nay, you go from truth towards falsehood by your own choice. "Naskh" means removal and alteration — that is, you were in the loins of the riders of Noah's Ark; take a lesson from your forefathers and think how they were saved from the flood. The People of the House are like Noah's Ark. I swear by the truth that I am not of those who force their speech and make a show; I make no false claim and do not speak without truth. Al-Jazari says: in the hadith of the two weighty things, the Book and the progeny are called "thaql" because taking hold of them and acting upon them is weighty. Everything precious is called "thaqil". If the Book and the progeny are called "thaql", it is because of the greatness of [their] worth and the loftiness of [their] station. This path of truth which I have shown you is very sweet and pleasant water, and the path of falsehood against which I have warned you is salt and bitter.

Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: Sa'd asked Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, about the verse "It is not piety that you enter houses from their backs; rather piety is for one to be God-fearing. So enter houses by their doors." The Imam said: The family of Muhammad are the gates of God, His path, those who call to Paradise and guide to it, until the Day of Resurrection.

Tafsir al-'Ayyashi: Jabir b. Yazid relates from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, concerning the verse "It is not piety that you enter houses…" that he said: The meaning of the verse is that every work among works and every matter among matters should be done by its own way.

ط.It appears that this inference of his, may God have mercy on him, is a defence of the reports indicating the distortion of the Book; whereas the Prophet's words "they will not part" indicate only that the Qur'anic teachings with their realities are with the People of the House, peace be upon them, and have no bearing on whether or not the wording of the Qur'an is separated from its meaning — as is plain.
