و كذا الشيخ الأجل المقداد بن عبد اللّٰه من أجلة الفقهاء و تصانيفه في نهاية الاعتبار و الاشتهار.

So too the most eminent Shaykh al-Miqdad b. 'Abd Allah is among the most eminent jurists, and his compositions are of the utmost reliability and fame.

و كذا فخر المحققين أدق الفقهاء المتأخرين و كتبه متداولة معروفة.

So too Fakhr al-Muhaqqiqin, the most exacting of the later jurists; his books are in circulation and recognised.

و كتاب الأضواء محتو على فوائد كثيرة لكن لم نرجع إليه كثيرا.

The Book of al-Adwa' contains many benefits, though we have not had recourse to it often.

و الشيخ مروج المذهب نور الدين حشره اللّٰه مع الأئمة الطاهرين حقوقه على الإيمان و أهله أكثر من أن يشكر على أقله و تصانيفه في نهاية الرزانة و المتانة.

As for the Shaykh who promoted the school, Nur al-Din — may God gather him with the pure Imams — his claims upon the faith and its people are greater than the least of them could be thanked for, and his compositions are of the utmost gravity and solidity.

و السيد الرشيد الشهيد التستري حشره اللّٰه مع الشهداء الأولين بذل الجهد في نصرة الدين المبين و دفع شبه المخالفين و كتبه معروفة لكن أخذنا أخبارها من مأخذها.

And the guided martyr al-Sayyid al-Tustari — may God gather him with the first of the martyrs — expended every effort in aiding the manifest religion and repelling the doubts of those who differ from us. His books are recognised, though we have taken their reports from their own sources.

و الشيخ ابن داود في غاية الشهرة بين المتأخرين و بالغوا في مدحه في الإجازات و قل رجوعنا إلى كتبه.

Al-Shaykh Ibn Dawud is of the utmost fame among the later scholars, and they have gone to lengths in praising him in the authorisations; our recourse to his books has been slight.

و كذا رجال ابن الغضائري و هو إن كان الحسين فهو من أجلة الثقات و إن كان أحمد كما هو الظاهر فلا أعتمد عليه كثيرا و على أي حال فالاعتماد على هذا الكتاب يوجب رد أكثر أخبار الكتب المشهورة.

So too the Rijal of Ibn al-Ghada'iri: if its author is al-Husayn, then he is among the most eminent of the trustworthy; but if he is Ahmad, as appears to be the case, then I do not rely upon him greatly. In any case, relying upon this book would require rejecting most of the reports of the well-known books.

و كتابا الملحمة مشهوران لكن لا أعتمد عليهما كثيرا.

The two books of al-Malhama are well known, but I do not rely upon them greatly.

و كتاب الأنوار قد أثنى بعض أصحاب الشهيد الثاني على مؤلفه و عدة من مشايخه. و مضامين أخباره موافقة للأخبار المعتبرة المنقولة بالأسانيد الصحيحة و كان مشهورا بين علمائنا يتلونه في شهر ربيع الأول في المجالس و المجامع إلى يوم المولد الشريف و كذا الكتابان الآخران معتبران أوردنا بعض أخبارهما في الكتاب.

As for the Book of al-Anwar, some of the companions of al-Shahid al-Thani praised its author and counted him among his shaykhs. The contents of its reports agree with the reliable reports transmitted by sound chains, and it was well known among our scholars, who used to recite it in the month of Rabi' al-Awwal in gatherings and assemblies until the day of the noble birth. So too the other two books are reliable, and we have set down some of their reports in this book.

و كتاب أحمد بن أبي طاهر مشتمل على خطبة فاطمة صلوات اللّٰه عليها و خطب نساء أهل البيت عليهم السلام في كربلاء و مؤلفه معتبر بين الفريقين.

The book of Ahmad b. Abi Tahir contains the sermon of Fatima, God's blessings be upon her, and the sermons of the women of the People of the House, peace be upon them, at Karbala; its author is reliable in the eyes of both parties.

و السيد الأمجد ميرزا محمد قدس اللّٰه روحه من النجباء الأفاضل و الأتقياء الأماثل و جاور بيت اللّٰه الحرام إلى أن مضى إلى رحمة اللّٰه و كتبه في غاية المتانة و السداد

And the most glorious Sayyid Mirza Muhammad, God sanctify his spirit, was among the distinguished and eminent and among the godfearing and exemplary. He dwelt near the Sacred House of God until he passed to God's mercy, and his books are of the utmost solidity and soundness.
