القرآن و العلم بمعانيه و عالما بوجوه الفقه و علم اختلاف الفقهاء و اللغة و الشعر و المعرفة بأيام الناس مع عقل و إنصاف و ألف لأهل البيت من الكتب آلاف أوراق بأحسن تأليف و أملح سجع و عمل في المناقب و المثالب كتابا حسنا و له ردود على المخالفين له رد على أبي حنيفة و على مالك و الشافعي و علي بن شريح و كتاب إختلاف ينتصر فيه لأهل البيت عليهم السلام أقول ثم ذكر كثيرا من فضائله و أحواله و نحوه ذكر اليافعي و غيره و قال ابن شهرآشوب في كتاب معالم العلماء القاضي النعمان بن محمد ليس بإمامي و كتبه حسان منها شرح الأخبار في فضائل الأئمة الأطهار ذكر المناقب إلى الصادق عليه السلام الاتفاق و الإفتراق المناقب و المثالب الإمامة أصول المذاهب الدولة الإيضاح انتهى.
the Qur'an and knowledge of its meanings, learned in the aspects of jurisprudence, in the science of the disagreements of the jurists, in lexicography, in poetry, and in acquaintance with the days of men, together with intelligence and fairness. He composed for the People of the House thousands of pages of books, in the finest composition and the most agreeable rhymed prose, and produced on the merits and the faults an excellent book. He has refutations of his opponents: a refutation of Abu Hanifa, of Malik, of al-Shafi'i and of Ibn Shurayh; and a Book of Disagreement in which he champions the People of the House, peace be upon them." I say: he then set down much of his merits and circumstances, and al-Yafi'i and others mentioned the like. Ibn Shahrashub said in the Book of Ma'alim al-'Ulama': "The judge al-Nu'man b. Muhammad is not an Imami, and his books are excellent; among them Sharh al-Akhbar fi Fada'il al-A'imma al-Athar, in which he sets down the merits down to al-Sadiq, peace be upon him; al-Ittifaq wa'l-Iftiraq; al-Manaqib wa'l-Mathalib; al-Imama; Usul al-Madhahib; al-Dawla; al-Idah." و كتاب المناقب و المثالب كتاب لطيف مشتمل على فوائد جليلة.
The Book of al-Manaqib wa'l-Mathalib is an elegant book containing eminent benefits.
و كتاب الحسين بن حمدان مشتمل على أخبار كثيرة في الفضائل لكن غمز عليه بعض أصحاب الرجال.
The book of al-Husayn b. Hamdan contains many reports on the merits, though some of the scholars of rijal have cast doubt upon him.
و ابن الخشاب تاريخه مشهور أخرج منه صاحب كشف الغمة و أخباره معتبرة و هو كتاب صغير مقصور على ولادتهم و وفاتهم و مدد أعمارهم عليهم السلام.
As for Ibn al-Khashshab, his history is well known; the author of Kashf al-Ghumma drew from it, and its reports are reliable. It is a small book confined to their births and deaths and the spans of their lives, peace be upon them.
و كتاب البرهان كتاب متين فيه أخبار غريبة و مؤلفه من مشاهير الفضلاء قال النجاشي علي بن محمد العدوي الشمشاطي كان شيخا بالجزيرة و فاضل أهل زمانه و أديبهم ثم ذكر له تصانيف كثيرة و عد منها هذا الكتاب.
The Book of al-Burhan is a solid book containing rare reports, and its author is among the well-known eminent scholars. Al-Najashi said: "'Ali b. Muhammad al-'Adawi al-Shimshati was a shaykh in al-Jazira, the most learned and most cultivated man of his time." He then listed many compositions of his and counted this book among them.
و رسالة أبي غالب مشتملة على أحوال زرارة بن أعين و إخوانه و أولادهم و أحفادهم و أسانيدهم و كتبهم و رواياتهم و فيه فوائد جمة و هذا الرجل أعني أحمد بن محمد بن سليمان بن الحسن بن الجهم بن بكير بن أعين بن سنسن الملقب بأبي غالب الزراري كان من أفاضل الثقات و المحدثين و كان أستاد الأفاضل الأعلام كالشيخ المفيد و ابن الغضائري و ابن عبدون قدس اللّٰه أسرارهم و عد النجاشي و غيره هذه الرسالة من كتبه و سنذكر الرسالة بتمامها في آخر مجلدات هذا الكتاب إن شاء اللّٰه تعالى.
The epistle of Abu Ghalib contains the circumstances of Zurara b. A'yan, his brothers, their children and grandchildren, their chains, their books and their narrations; in it are abundant benefits. This man — I mean Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Sulayman b. al-Hasan b. al-Jahm b. Bukayr b. A'yan b. Sinsin, titled Abu Ghalib al-Zurari — was among the most eminent of the trustworthy and of the traditionists, and was teacher of the leading eminent scholars such as al-Shaykh al-Mufid, Ibn al-Ghada'iri and Ibn 'Abdun, God sanctify their secrets. Al-Najashi and others counted this epistle among his books, and we shall set the epistle down in full in the last of the volumes of this book, if God the Exalted wills.
و كتاب دلائل الإمامة من الكتب المعتبرة المشهورة أخذ منه جل من تأخر
