ثم يبتدئ في سائر الأبواب بمشايخ الحسين و هذا مما يورث الظن بكونه منه و يحتمل كونه من أحمد لبعض القرائن كما أشرنا إليه و للابتداء به في أول الكتاب.

then in the remaining chapters it begins with the shaykhs of al-Husayn. This gives rise to the supposition that it is his; yet it may be by Ahmad, on account of certain indications, as we have noted, and because the book opens with him.

و كتاب العيون و المحاسن لما كان مقصورا على الحكم و المواعظ لا يضرنا جهالة مؤلفه و عندنا منه نسخة مصححة قديمة و هو مشتمل على غرر الكلم و زاد عليه كثيرا من درر الحكم التي لم يعثر عليها الآمدي و يظهر مما سننقل عن ابن شهرآشوب أن الآمدي كان من علمائنا و أجاز له رواية هذا الكتاب و قال في معالم العلماء عبد الواحد بن محمد بن عبد الواحد الآمدي التميمي له غرر الحكم و درر الكلم يذكر فيه أمثال أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام و حكمه.

As for the Book of al-'Uyun wa'l-Mahasin, since it is confined to maxims and admonitions, our ignorance of its author does us no harm. We have of it an old, corrected copy. It contains the choice sayings, and adds to them many of the precious maxims which al-Amidi did not come upon. It appears from what we shall quote from Ibn Shahrashub that al-Amidi was among our scholars and that he authorised him to transmit this book. He said in Ma'alim al-'Ulama': "'Abd al-Wahid b. Muhammad b. 'Abd al-Wahid al-Amidi al-Tamimi; he has Ghurar al-Hikam wa Durar al-Kalim, in which he sets down the sayings and maxims of the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him."

و كتب الكفعمي أغنانا اشتهارها و فضل مؤلفها عن التعرض لحالها و حاله.

The fame of al-Kaf'ami's books and the learning of their author spare us any need to treat of their condition or of his.

و كتاب قضاء الحقوق كتاب جيد مشتمل على أخبار طريفة.

The Book of Qada' al-Huquq is a good book containing fine reports.

و كتب السيد بهاء الدين بن عبد الحميد و الكتابان الأولان مشتملان على أخبار غريبة في الرجعة و أحوال القائم عليه السلام و الكتاب الثالث متضمن لذكر فضائل الأئمة و كيفية شهادة سيد الشهداء و أصحابه السعداء عليه و عليهم السلام و ذكر خروج المختار لطلب الثأر و جمل أحواله و الرابع مشتمل على نوادر الأخبار و السيد المذكور من أفاضل النقباء و النجباء.

As for the books of al-Sayyid Baha' al-Din b. 'Abd al-Hamid: the first two contain rare reports on the return and on the circumstances of the Qa'im, peace be upon him; the third takes in the merits of the Imams, the manner of the martyrdom of the Master of Martyrs and of his blessed companions, peace be upon him and upon them, and an account of al-Mukhtar's rising to seek vengeance together with the sum of his circumstances; and the fourth contains rare reports. The said Sayyid is among the most eminent of the naqibs and the distinguished.

و كتاب التمحيص متانته تدل على فضل مؤلفه و إن كان مؤلفه أبا علي كما هو الظاهر ففضله و توثيقه مشهوران.

The solidity of the Book of al-Tamhis points to the learning of its author; and if its author is Abu 'Ali, as appears to be the case, then his learning and his attested trustworthiness are well known.

و كتب الفاضلين الجليلين العلامة و ابن فهد قدس اللّٰه روحهما في الاشتهار و الاعتبار كمؤلفيها.

The books of the two eminent scholars al-'Allama and Ibn Fahd, God sanctify the spirits of them both, are in fame and reliability as their authors are.

و كتاب العدد كتاب لطيف في أعمال أيام الشهور و سعدها و نحسها و قد اتفق لنا منه نصفه و مؤلفه بالفضل معروف و في الإجازات مذكور و هو أخو العلامة الحلي قدس اللّٰه لطيفهما.

The Book of al-'Adad is an elegant book on the deeds of the days of the months and their auspicious and inauspicious days; half of it has come into our hands. Its author is known for learning and named in the authorisations; he is the brother of al-'Allama al-Hilli, God sanctify their subtle spirits.

و الشيخ ابن نما و السيد فخار هما من أجلة رواتنا و مشايخنا و سيأتي ذكرهما في إجازات أصحابنا.

As for al-Shaykh Ibn Nama and al-Sayyid Fakhkhar, they are among the most eminent of our transmitters and shaykhs; mention of them will come in the authorisations of our companions.
