As for the Book of Qabas al-Misbah, you have learned the eminence of its author, besides which it is confined to supplication.

The books of al-Bayadi and Ibn Sulayman are all fit to be relied upon; their two authors are among the stalwart scholars, and the utmost solidity and soundness is apparent in them.

As for the Book of al-Sara'ir, reliance upon it and upon its author is no secret to men of discernment.

The Book of Irshad al-Qulub is an elegant book containing solid and rare reports.

From the two books A'lam al-Din and Ghurar al-Akhbar we have transmitted few reports, since most of their reports are set down in books more reliable than they — even though the eminence of their author is apparent from the whole and from the transmission of the great scholars from them.

The ancient book is wholly on supplications. It contains complete, eloquent and rare supplications, from each of which the light of inimitability and of instruction shines forth; every clause of them is an upright witness to their issuing from the Imams of mankind and the princes of speech. Al-Sayyid b. Tawus, God have mercy on him, transmitted much from it in al-Muhaj and elsewhere. The date of writing of the copy from which we extracted was the year five hundred and seventy-six. It appears from al-Kaf'ami that it is the collection of supplications of the eminent Shaykh Abu al-Husayn Muhammad b. Harun al-Tal'ukbari, who is among the greatest of the traditionists.

The two books of rijal are what the excellent scholars turn upon in every age and land. From them we confine ourselves to setting down what concerns matters other than the establishing of the circumstances of transmitters — that is, what bears upon the other chapters.

The Book of Bisharat al-Mustafa is among the well-known books; many of our scholars have transmitted from it, and its author is among the most eminent traditionists. He occurs in most of our chains to the Shaykh of the community, and he transmits from Abu 'Ali, son of the Shaykh of the community, all his books and narrations. Al-Shaykh Muntajab al-Din said in the Fihrist: "The Shaykh and Imam 'Imad al-Din Muhammad b. Abi al-Qasim al-Tabari, a trustworthy jurist; he studied under al-Shaykh Abu 'Ali al-Tusi and has compositions; Qutb al-Din al-Rawandi studied under him."

The eminence of al-Husayn b. Sa'id and of Ahmad b. Muhammad b. 'Isa spares us any need to treat of the condition of their compositions; and the attribution of the Book of al-Zuhd to al-Husayn is established.

As for the other primary work, its opening ran thus: "Ahmad b. Muhammad b. 'Isa, from al-Husayn b. Sa'id";
