أفاضل الأصحاب و ثقاتهم و الكتابان مذكوران في فهارس العلماء و نقل الأصحاب عنهما.

the eminent and trustworthy of our companions; the two books are named in the catalogues of the scholars, and our companions have transmitted from them.

و كتاب الدعاء وجدنا منه نسخة عتيقة و فيه دعوات موجزة شريفة مأخوذة من الأصول المعتبرة مع أن الأمر في سند الدعاء هين.

Of the Book of al-Du'a' we found an old copy; in it are brief and noble supplications taken from the reliable primary works — and in any case the matter of a chain in supplication is of little consequence.

و كتاب القصص قد عرفت حاله و عرضناه على نسخة كان عليها خط الشهيد الثاني رحمه اللّٰه و تصحيحه.

As for the Book of al-Qisas, you have learned its condition; we collated it against a copy bearing the hand and the correction of al-Shahid al-Thani, God have mercy on him.

و كتاب ضوء الشهاب كتاب شريف مشتمل على فوائد جمة خلت عنها كتب الخاصة و العامة.

The Book of Daw' al-Shihab is a noble book containing abundant benefits absent from the books of both the Shi'a and the wider community.

و كتاب اللباب مشتمل على بعض الفوائد.

The Book of al-Lubab contains some benefits.

و شرح النهج مشهور معروف رجع إليه أكثر الشراح.

The commentary on the Nahj is well known and recognised; most of the commentators have had recourse to it.

و كتاب أسباب النزول فيه فوائد.

The Book of Asbab al-Nuzul contains benefits.

و كتب السادة الأعلام أبناء طاوس كلها معروفة و تركنا منها كتاب ربيع الشيعة لموافقته لكتاب إعلام الورى في جميع الأبواب و الترتيب و هذا مما يقضي منه العجب.

The books of the eminent Sayyids, the sons of Tawus, are all recognised. We have left aside among them the Book of Rabi' al-Shi'a, since it agrees with the Book of I'lam al-Wara in all its chapters and arrangement — which is a matter for wonder.

و كتاب تأويل الآيات و كتاب كنز جامع الفوائد رأيت جمعا من المتأخرين رووا عنهما و مؤلفهما في غاية الفضل و الديانة.

As for the Book of Ta'wil al-Ayat and the Book of Kanz Jami' al-Fawa'id, I have seen a number of later scholars transmit from them, and their author is of the utmost learning and piety.

و كتاب غوالي اللآلي و إن كان مشهورا و مؤلفه في الفضل معروفا لكنه لم يميز القشر من اللباب و أدخل أخبار متعصبي المخالفين بين روايات الأصحاب فلذا اقتصرنا منه على نقل بعضها و مثله كتاب نثر اللآلي و كتاب جامع الأخبار.

The Book of Ghawali al-La'ali, although well known and its author recognised for learning, did not sift the husk from the kernel, and brought the reports of the bigots among those who differ from us in among the narrations of our companions; for that reason we have confined ourselves to transmitting only some of it. The like holds of the Book of Nathr al-La'ali and the Book of Jami' al-Akhbar.

و كتاب النعماني من أجل الكتب و قال الشيخ المفيد رحمه اللّٰه في إرشاده بعد أن ذكر النصوص على إمامة الحجة عليه و على آبائه الصلاة و السلام و الروايات في ذلك كثيرة قد دونها أصحاب الحديث من هذه العصابة في كتبها فممن أثبتها على الشرح و التفصيل محمد بن إبراهيم المكنى أبا عبد اللّٰه النعماني في كتابه الذي صنفه في الغيبة.

The Book of al-Nu'mani is among the most eminent of books. Al-Shaykh al-Mufid, God have mercy on him, said in his Irshad, after setting down the explicit designations of the Imamate of the Proof — upon him and upon his forefathers be blessings and peace: "The narrations on this are many, and the traditionists of this party have recorded them in their books. Among those who established them with exposition and detail is Muhammad b. Ibrahim, with the agnomen Abu 'Abd Allah al-Nu'mani, in the book he composed on the Occultation."
