become as widely known as the rest of his books; it is confined to setting down brief sayings handed down from the Prophet, may God bless him and his family, and from each of the Imams, God's blessings be upon them all.
The books of the two eminent Sayyids, like their authors, need no comment.
The Book of Tibb al-A'imma is among the well-known books, though it is not on the level of the rest, its author being unknown. That does no harm, since little of it bears upon the derivative rulings; and in matters of remedies and supplications we have no need of strong chains.
The Book of Sahifat al-Rida, peace be upon him, is among the books well known to both the Shi'a and the wider community. The eminent Sayyid 'Ali b. Tawus transmitted from it by his chain to al-Shaykh al-Tabrisi, God have mercy on him; and I found in the old copies of it chains to the said Shaykh and from him to the Imam, peace be upon him. Al-Zamakhshari said in the Book of Rabi' al-Abrar: "Yahya b. al-Husayn al-Husayni used to say of the chain of the Sahifat al-Rida: were this chain recited into the ear of a madman he would recover his senses." Al-Najashi referred to it in his notice on 'Abd Allah b. Ahmad b. 'Amir al-Ta'i and on his father, the transmitter of this epistle; he praised it and gave his chain to it. In sum, it is among the well-known primary works and may soundly be relied upon.
So too the Book of Tibb al-Rida, peace be upon him, is among the recognised books. Al-Shaykh Muntajab al-Din mentioned in the Fihrist that al-Sayyid Fadl Allah b. 'Ali al-Rawandi wrote a commentary upon it which he named Tarjamat al-'Alawi li'l-Tibb al-Radawi. And Ibn Shahrashub said in al-Ma'alim, in his notice on Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Jumhur al-Qummi: "He has al-Malahim wa'l-Fitan, al-Wahida, and the Golden Epistle from al-Rida, God's blessings be upon him, on medicine." End of quotation. Al-Shaykh mentioned the like of this in the Fihrist and gave his chain to it; we shall set it down in full in the Book of the Heavens and the World, in the chapters on medicine.
As for the Book of Fiqh al-Rida, peace be upon him, you have learned its condition.
The Book of al-Masa'il — its traditions agree with what is in the books in circulation, and its transmitter is too well known for his condition and eminence to be hidden from anyone.
