و كتابا المناقب و المعالم من الكتب المعتبرة قد ذكرهما أصحاب الإجازات و مؤلفهما أشهر في الفضل و الثقة و الجلالة من أن يخفى حاله على أحد.

The two books al-Manaqib and al-Ma'alim are among the reliable books; the authors of the authorisations mentioned them, and their author is too well known in learning, trustworthiness and eminence for his condition to be hidden from anyone.

و بيان التنزيل كتاب صغير الحجم كثير الفوائد أخذنا منه يسيرا لكون أكثره مذكورا في غيره.

Bayan al-Tanzil is a small book of many benefits; we have taken only a little from it, since most of it is set down elsewhere.

و كتاب كشف الغمة من أشهر الكتب و مؤلفه من العلماء الإمامية المذكورين في سند الإجازات.

The Book of Kashf al-Ghumma is among the best known of books, and its author is among the Imami scholars named in the chains of the authorisations.

و كتاب تحف العقول عثرنا منه على كتاب عتيق و نظمه يدل على رفعة شأن مؤلفه و أكثره في المواعظ و الأصول المعلومة التي لا نحتاج فيها إلى سند.

Of the Book of Tuhaf al-'Uqul we came upon an old copy; its arrangement points to the loftiness of its author's standing. Most of it consists of admonitions and of well-established principles for which we need no chain.

و كتاب العمدة و مؤلفه مشهوران مذكوران في أسانيد الإجازات و كذا المناقب و أما المستدرك فعندنا منه نسخة قديمة نظن أنها بخط مؤلفها. و كتاب الكفاية كتاب شريف لم يؤلف مثله في الإمامة و هذا الكتاب و مؤلفه مذكوران في إجازة العلامة و غيرها و تأليفه أدل دليل على فضله و ثقته و ديانته و وثقه العلامة في الخلاصة قال كان ثقة من أصحابنا فقيها وجها و قال ابن شهرآشوب في المعالم علي بن محمد بن علي الخزاز الرازي و يقال له القمي و له كتب في الكلام و في الفقه من كتبه الكفاية في النصوص و كذا كتاب تنبيه الخاطر و مؤلفه مذكوران في الإجازات مشهوران لكنه رحمه اللّٰه لما كان كتابه مقصورا على المواعظ و الحكم لم يميز الغث من السمين و خلط أخبار الإمامية بآثار المخالفين و لذا لم نذكر جميع ما في ذلك الكتاب بل اقتصرنا على نقل ما هو أوثق لعدم افتقارنا ببركات الأئمة الطاهرين عليهم السلام إلى أخبار المخالفين.

The Book of al-'Umda and its author are both well known and named in the chains of the authorisations, and so likewise al-Manaqib. As for al-Mustadrak, we have an old copy of it which we suppose to be in the hand of its author. The Book of al-Kifaya is a noble book; nothing like it has been composed on the Imamate. This book and its author are named in the authorisation of al-'Allama and elsewhere, and its composition is the clearest proof of his learning, trustworthiness and piety. Al-'Allama attested his trustworthiness in al-Khulasa, saying: "He was trustworthy, one of our companions, a jurist of standing." And Ibn Shahrashub said in al-Ma'alim: "'Ali b. Muhammad b. 'Ali al-Khazzaz al-Razi, also called al-Qummi; he has books on theology and on jurisprudence, among them al-Kifaya fi'l-Nusus." So too the Book of Tanbih al-Khatir and its author are named in the authorisations and well known; but since his book was confined to admonitions and maxims, he did not, God have mercy on him, sift the poor from the sound, and mixed the reports of the Imamiyya with the traditions of those who differ from us. For that reason we have not set down everything in that book, but have confined ourselves to transmitting what is more reliable — for by the blessings of the pure Imams, peace be upon them, we have no need of the reports of those who differ from us.

و كتابا مشارق الأنوار و الألفين قد عرفت حالهما.
