any deed save with knowledge, and there is no knowledge save with deed. So whoever knows, his knowledge leads him to the deed; and whoever does not act, he has no knowledge. Indeed faith — part of it is from part.
sn, al-Mahasin: my father, from Muhammad b. Sinan, the like of it. Elucidation: the apparent view is that what is meant by knowledge is the principles of belief; and the more general is possible. His words, "indeed faith — part of it is from part" — that is, the parts of faith, of beliefs and of deeds, are conditioned one upon another, as though the beliefs were parts of the deeds and the reverse; or what is meant is that the parts of faith arise one from another.

'Atiyya, from al-Thumali (1), from 'Ali b. al-Husayn, peace be upon them both, who said: There is no pedigree for a man of Quraysh nor for an Arab save by humility, and no nobility save by God-fearing, and no deed save by intention, and no worship save by understanding. Nay — indeed the most hateful of people to God, mighty and majestic, is he who follows the practice of an Imam and does not follow his deeds.

Musa, from his forefathers, peace be upon them, who said: The Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — said: There is no word save with deed, and no word and deed save with intention, and no word and deed and intention save with the hitting upon the sunna.
Illumination: "there is no word" — that is, no word and belief profits with a complete profit save by the joining of the deed to it; and these two do not profit either save when they are for God, without admixture of ostentation and corrupt purpose; and these three do not profit either save when they accord with the sunna and the deed is not an innovation.
