Ja'far, from his father Ja'far b. Muhammad, from his forefathers, peace be upon him, who said: The Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — said: Two qualities (1) are not gathered in the hypocrite: understanding in Islam, and a goodly bearing in the face.

«19»- ma, the Amali of al-Shaykh al-Tusi: al-Mufid, from Ibn Quluwayh, from Ibn 'Amir, from al-Isfahani, from al-Minqari, from Hammad b. 'Isa, from Abu 'Abd Allah, peace be upon him, who said: Among what Luqman admonished his son was that he said to him: My son, set in your days and your nights and your hours a portion for yourself in the seeking of knowledge; for you will never find a squandering of it like the leaving of it.
fs, the Tafsir of al-Qummi: my father, from al-Isfahani, the like of it. Elucidation: its meaning is the urging to persevere in the seeking of knowledge and the studying of it; for the leaving of it entails the loss of what has been attained, and its going and its being forgotten.
«20»- ma, the Amali of al-Shaykh al-Tusi: al-Mufid, from al-Ju'abi, who said: There related to me the righteous Shaykh 'Abd Allah b. Muhammad b. 'Abd Allah b. Yasin, who said: I heard the righteous servant 'Ali b. Muhammad b. 'Ali al-Rida, peace be upon him, at Surra Man Ra'a, mentioning from his forefathers, peace be upon them, who said: The Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, said: Knowledge is a noble inheritance, and disciplines are fair garments, and thought is a clear mirror, and the making of excuse is a warner who counsels. And it suffices you as discipline for yourself that you leave what you dislike for another.
ja, the Majalis of al-Mufid: al-Ju'abi, the like of it. Elucidation: his words, peace be upon him, "and the making of excuse is a warner who counsels" — that is, there suffices for the leaving of acts of disobedience and of evils what follows upon them of the making of excuse; so how much more with the fear of punishment. And it seems to be a miscopying, and the more evident is al-i'tibar, as in the Nahj al-Balagha and elsewhere.
