صلى الله عليه وآله وآثار رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله ، فيه فأنكر الناس ذلك من قوله ، فلما عرف إنكارهم قال : ما بالكم أتروني فعلت ذلك ، إنما أردت التهويل فراسلهم علي عليه السلام : أن ليس إلى خروجي حيلة ، لأني في جمع كتاب الله الذي قد نبذتموه وألهتكم الدنيا عنه وقد حلفت أن لا أخرج من بيتي ولا أضع ردائي على عاتقي ، حتى أجمع القرآن .
may God bless him and his Family, and the relics of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, are in it. And the people found that saying of his abhorrent. When he perceived their abhorrence he said: What ails you? Do you think I would have done it? I only meant to strike terror. So 'Ali, peace be upon him, sent word to them: There is no means for me to come out, for I am engaged upon the collecting of the Book of God which you have cast away and from which the world has distracted you; and I have sworn that I shall not go out of my house, nor put my cloak upon my shoulder, until I have gathered the Qur'an.
قال : وخرجت فاطمة بنت رسول الله صلى الله عليهما وآلهما إليهم ، فوقفت على الباب 5 ، ثم قالت : لا عهد لي بقوم أسوء محضرا منكم ، تركتم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله جنازة بين أيدينا وقطعتم أمركم فيما بينكم ، فلم توامرونا 6 ولم تروا لنا حقنا ؟
He said: And Fatima the daughter of the Messenger of God, God's blessings be upon them both and upon their families, went out to them and stood at the door [5], and then said: I have no knowledge of a people of worse presence than you. You left the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, a corpse before us, and you settled your affair among yourselves; you did not consult us [6], and you did not see any right as ours. [7]
7 كأنكم لم تعلموا ما قال يوم غدير خم ، والله لقد عقد له يومئذ الولاء ليقطع منكم بذلك منها الرجاء ، ولكنكم قطعتم الأسباب بينكم وبين نبيكم ، والله حسيب بيننا وبينكم في الدنيا والآخرة 8 .
It is as though you did not know what he said on the day of Ghadir Khumm. By God, he bound the allegiance to him that day, so as to cut off thereby your hope of it; but you severed the bonds between you and your prophet. And God is the reckoner between us and you in this world and the next. [8]
