Section [on most of the people not being present at the burial of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family]. Ibn 'Abd al-Barr said, as quoted from al-Isti'ab: Abu Bakr was given the pledge of the caliphate on the day on which the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, was taken, in the portico of Banu Sa'ida; then he was given the general pledge on the Tuesday of the morrow of that day. And Sa'd b. 'Ubada held back from pledging to him, and a party of the Khazraj, and a group of Quraysh. End.
And our shaykh al-Mufid said in the Irshad: Most of the people were not present at the burial of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, because of the quarrelling that took place between the Emigrants and the Ansar over the affair of the caliphate; and most of them missed the prayer over him for that reason. And Fatima, peace be upon her, rose in the morning crying: Alas for the evil of this morning! Abu Bakr heard her and said to her: Truly your morning is a morning of evil. End. [1]

And al-Sayyid b. Tawus said in Kashf al-Mahajja, to his son: And among the most wondrous of what I have seen in the book of the opponents — and al-Tabari mentioned in his history what amounts to this: that the Prophet, may God bless him and his Family, died on the Monday and was not buried until the night of Wednesday; and in a narration, that he remained three days until he was buried.
